ガトー・ド・ヴォワイヤージュ Gâteau de Voyage

結構前にABCクッキングのサイトでおいしそうなケーキのレシピを見つけました。ガトー・ド・ヴォワイヤージュといいます。蜂蜜とレモンがきいたとてもおいしいケーキです。それ用のちいさなローフパンがなかったので最近買ってきました。ちゃんとしたサイズで焼いたらやっぱりもっとおいしくできました♪

I found a yummy looking cake (more like pound cake looking cake) recipe on a Japanese cooking school website. It's called Gateau de Voyage. It's got honey and lemon and so yummy! I didn't have the right size pan, so I bought one and it sure worked great. :)

5か月になりました☆ 5 Months Old!

今日でウィリアムは5か月です。ますます大きく成長しています！最近はいぶかしげな目つきをよくするようになりました。

William is 5 months old today! He has been growing and growing! Lately he often gives us suspicious look. 

コッカリーキ Cock-A-Leekie

チキンが足りなくてビーフ（すね肉じゃない）も使いました。苦笑

I didn't have enough chicken, so I used beef as well.

ナルニア国ものがたりの6巻目を読んでいたら，cock-a-leekieというスープの名前が出てきました。どんなスープなのか知りたくて検索したら，スコットランドの伝統的なスープということでした。コッカ＝鶏肉，リーキ＝ポロネギ，つまり鶏肉とネギのスープです。鶏肉の代わりに牛のすね肉を入れてもいいようです。レシピの載っているサイトを見つけて簡単そうだったので作ってみることにしました。スコットランドのスープというよりはアジア料理みたい感じで普通においしかったです☆

As I was reading the Chronicles of Narnia, there appeared a soup name called cock-a-leekie. I wanted to know what kind of soup it was and searched online and found out it was a traditional Scottish soup. Cock = chicken, leekie = leek, so it's basically chicken and leek soup, but you could also use beef shank meat. I found the recipe online and tried it since it looked easy enough to cook. It was yummy but rather tasted like some kind of Asian soup.

3D パズル 3D Puzzle

この間の月曜日の「家庭の夕べ」の活動で3Dパズルをしました。パズルはクリスマスのときのサンタさんからの贈り物の一つ。うちは場所がないので1000ピースとか平たいパズルをするよりも立体の方が場所をとらなくてもいいということでサンタさんが考えてくれたみたいです。意外と難しい！ブライアンもわたしもかなりはまりました。まだまだ出来上がるまでに時間がかかりそうです。

For the last Family Home Evening, we did 3D puzzle for the activity. It was given from Santa as a Christmas gift. Since our apartment is small there is no place to do a regular puzzle, so Santa was so clever to give us 3D one which doesn't take much space. But, it's more difficult than I thought! Brian and I spent a good two hours working on it and it will still take a long long time to complete.

チキン プロバンサル Chicken Provencal

昨日の夕飯のために，またクロックポットのレシピ本から作ってみました。フランスのプロバンス地方の料理のようです。材料の中にあったフェンネルの種のにおいがちょっとわたしには強かったけれど，おいしかったです。鶏肉のほかにパプリカや玉ねぎホールトマトが入った健康的な料理でした☆ちなみにほんとは仕上げに生バジルの刻んだのを乗せるんだけれど乗せ忘れちゃいました。

We tried to cook again from the crock-pot recipe book for dinner last night. Chicken Provencal it is. The fennel seeds were a bit strong to me but the food was still delicious. It had chicken, some red and yellow peppers, onions, and whole tomatoes. Very healthy! Oh and it's supposed to have some fresh basil on the top. I totally forgot about it.

がんばってます！ Doing My Best!

ウィリアムです。最近いろいろ頑張っています！というかお母さんに頑張らさせられています。うつ伏せになって体を支える練習，寝返りやお座りの練習をやらされています。とても疲れます。でも今日は初めて寝返り一回できたよ！お母さんはとても喜んでいたみたい。

This is William. I have been working on many things lately. Actually mommy is making me work on those things; lying on my tummy, practicing rolling over and sitting. It exhausts me! But I was able to roll over for the first time today! Mommy seemed very excited. 

石炭飴 Coal Candy

これはゼデレトブックで売っている「石炭あめ」（Coal Candy）。まあ一言で言えばニッキ飴なんだけれど，それがものすごく辛口で，舌が超ヒリヒリ！ぜひ入手できる人お試しあれ！

This is Coal Candy sold at Deseret Book. It is cinnamon hard candy just like it says, but super hot! It burns your tongue! If you can, try it out!!

初ベビーカー First Time Stroller

これも15日のこと。初めてベビーカーにウィリー君を乗せて近くのお店に散歩がてら出かけてきました！3階に住んでいるのでベビーカーの持ち運びが大変でしたが頑張りました。外気温が低くて寒かったけれど陽が差していて気持ちのいい午後だったので，ウィリー君にとっても自分にとってもちょうど良かったんじゃないかと思います。ウィリー君は外の空気が冷たくて固まって静かにしてました。笑

This is from 1/15 as well. I put William in his stroller for the first time and went out to the stores nearby. It is hard to get out the apartment since we live on the 3rd floor. I had a hard time carrying the stroller up and down the stairs, but it was worth it. It was a nice sunny afternoon and I felt good going out. I think it was good for William too although he was kind of surprised to be outside being cold. He was awfully quiet while we were out. lol

トスカナビーフシチュー Tuscan Beef Stew

数日前からカメラの写真をパソコンに読み込めなくてブログ更新できませんでした～。今から一気に更新します！

これは1月15日のこと。クリスマスにサンタさんからもらったプレゼントの一つ，クロックポットを使ったレシピ本。最近とても寒い日が続いているのでシチューがいいということで，ブライアンとレシピを見てみてトスカナビーフシチュー（イタリア料理）を作ることにしました。朝からクロックポットに材料を入れて煮込んでおくだけでとてもおいしくできました。トマトベースのシチューです。嫌いな人参もシチューの味でまぎれてしまって普通に食べれました。ガーリックとパセリのパスタでシンプルにいただきました☆リピートしたい料理です♪

I had a problem downloading pictures from my camera to my computer and couldn't upload my blog. Now that the problem is solved, I'm going to post some of the things that have happened lately.

This is from 1/15. One of the presents I got from Santa is a crock-pot recipe book. It has been really cold lately, so Brian and I thought it would be good to try one of the stew recipes from the recipe book. Tuscan Beef Stew (Italian cuisine) it is. I just dumped all the ingredients in the crock-pot in the morning and the stew turned out so good. It's got chunks of carrots (which I do not like), but since the soup was tomato based and it blended with the carrots well, they actually tasted fine. We had the stew with a simple garlic & parsley pasta. This was a great stew and we would definitely cook it again.

おととい9日にウィリアムの4か月検診がありました。体重5613グラム，身長59.1センチ（実際もっと長い）と生まれたときに比べてずいぶん大きくなりました！いたって健康で乳幼児の成長グラフの枠に入る大きさになりました（これまでは小さすぎて枠外）。

そしてお医者さんから離乳食をあげてもいいという許可がでました。離乳食と言ってもまだライスシリアルに粉ミルク（液）を混ぜたものを一日一回あげるだけだけど。普通は6か月ころから始めると思うけれど医者がいいと言うならいいんでないの。アメリカでは成長の遅い子にも4か月あたりからライスシリアルをミルクと併用してあげたりするみたい（ウィリアムはそういうわけじゃないけど）。

で，昨日の朝さっそくライスシリアルを食べさせたところ，写真の顔でお分かりのようにおいしくなかったようです。かなーり嫌な顔してた。笑

William had his 4 months check up on the 9th. He weighed 12 lb 6 oz and was 23.25 inches long (I measured him the other day and he was actually longer). He is a big baby now! He is very healthy and is on the growth chart of normal babies (he used to be so small that he was out of the chart).

The doctor told me that William could start eating real food (for now rice cereal). I know babies normally start eating when they are 6 months old, but hey the doctor said it's OK, so why not. In the US, it looks like the babies who are not growing well are fed rice cereal along with milk.

So, I tried to feed William some rice cereal yesterday morning, and as you can tell, he did not like it. lol

少しあいさつが遅れてしまったけれど，明けましておめでとうございます☆今年もよろしくお願いします♪クリスマスが終わってからわたしたち3人みんな具合が悪くなってしまってやっと全員回復したところです。

アメリカはクリスマスがいちばん大きい祝日なので，年末年始はとてもさみしい感じがします。ブライアンは31日まで仕事して，新年2日から仕事行きました。大晦日は一応年越しそばを作ったけれど，お正月はお雑煮もおせちも食べず，初詣に行くわけでもないし，新年の感じが全然しません。日本のお正月が恋しい～！

This is a bit late, but Happy New Year!!! We all got sick after Christmas, but we got better now. 

Here in the US, Christmas is the biggest holiday, and the New Year doesn't seem a big deal. Brian went to work until 31st, had a day off on the New Year's day, but went back to work on the 2nd already. So boring. We had Toshikoshi Soba (year-crossing noodles?) for dinner (It is a Japanese tradition to eat the noodles before welcoming the new year), but that was all we did. No traditional Japanese food for the new year, and no Buddhist shrine/temple visits. It doesn't feel like a new year at all. I miss being in Japan for the new year!
