大晦日 New Year's Eve

今日は大晦日。2016年最後の日でした。
Today was New Year's Eve, the last day of the year 2016.

午前中家族みんなでショッピングに出かけて，あとは家でそれぞれのんびり。
In the morning, we went shopping. For the rest of the day, we just stayed home and did whatever.

午後裏庭で雪だるまを作ろうと思ったけれど雪がサラサラすぎて作れず。何もしないんじゃつまらないのでスノーエンジェル👼をやりました。我が家の男子はやりたがらず。臆病者め～。でも手袋してなかったから手が凍り付くようにめっちゃくちゃ寒くて痛かった！
In the afternoon, we went to the backyard to make a snowman, but it was powder snow that we couldn't make one. So, I did snow angel. William and Brian didn't want to do it. They were wimp! Actually they were smart not to do that because it was literally freezing and I got super cold especially my hands because I didn't have my gloves on. My hands were too cold that they hurt!

そして今年最後の夕飯は年越しそば。やっぱりこれを食べないと年は越せないね。天ぷらめんどうくさいけどね。おいしかった～。
And for the last meal for the year, we had Toshikoshi soba (Year-crossing noodles). Got to have this to welcome a new year.

今年一年何かとばたばたしていたけれど，家族みんな健康で無事に一年を過ごすことができて感謝。
I think over all it was a great year. I'm grateful that everyone in our family stayed healthy (except some cold and stuff) and nothing bad really happened. 

お友達と遊びました Playdate

今日はお友達のお家に行って遊びました。一週間ぶりに運転して，まだ雪がたくさんある除雪車が入らない近所の道はハンドル取られながらゆっくりゆっくり走りました。
William and I went to our friend's house for a playdate. I hadn't driven for a week because of all the snow. I drove slowly in our neighborhood streets where there is still a lot of snow and very icy. 

最初はお互い別々のおもちゃで遊んでいましたが，最後にはみんな風船で🎈盛り上がってました。幼稚園や学校が始まったらまた別々のスケジュールで会うのが難しいので今度はいつ遊べるかな。
William and his friends were playing with different toys at first, but they all started playing with balloons at the end, and they had so much fun together. Next week school starts again and it would be hard to get together, but hopefully they get to play sometime again soon.

今晩は先週から食べたいと思っていたかつ丼を作りました。アメリカに来てから初めて作ったと思う。カツまでは作っても丼までするのは面倒くさいのでやったことなかったけど，やっぱおいしい～♪
I cooked Katsu-don for dinner tonight. I had been wanting to have it since last week. It was the first time to cook it since I got married. I just didn't do it because it's so much work (not really, but if you have a kid at home, yes), but it was so good that I might cook it more often.

あしたは大晦日。今日一応正月用におもちを作りました。ホームベーカリーで簡単にできるので感謝。
It's New Year's Eve tomorrow. I made some mochi for the New Year today. It's so nice that my bread machine can make mochi (rice cake).

クリスマスのその後 After Christmas

相変わらず寒い日が続いています。家の外はまだ真っ白だし，屋根からはみごとなつららが。マイナス14度とかありえない。
It's been really cold. It's all still white outside and we have some icicles hanging from the roof. I think 6 degrees is a bit too cold.

あわただしいクリスマスが終わって一息と思いきや，毎日ウィリアムとウィリアムのもらったプレゼントで遊んでいます。キッチンセットでおままごとごっこやダンボールの家を組み立てて色を塗ったり，クリスマスにもらった本を読んだり，ウィリアムはなかなか一人にしてくれません。
Now Christmas is over and you would think things have slowed down a little bit right? NO. William has been constantly asking me to play with him with the stuff he received for Christmas. We have played with his new kitchen set, built a cardboard house and color it, read some books, etc.

昨日は個人的にはクリームパンが食べたくなって，でもクリームを作るのがめんどうだったので，たまたま冷蔵庫にあったあんこを使ってアンパン作り。焼き色がいまいちだけどおいしくできました♪

Yesterday, I baked anpan (red bean paste bread) for the first time. They were yummy. :)

それから，クリスマスに作ろうと思っていたロールケーキも作りました。一度目の生地を失敗して，二度目にやいたのも超いまいち。でももうクッキングシートがなくなっちゃたので仕方なくこれで。もっと練習します。去年のほうが上手にできたような。。。

I also baked roll cake. This was a failure. I baked the sponge part once and it was a complete failure, so I baked it again. It turned out better than the first one, but sill terrible. I need to try again sometime.

今日はウィリアムと買ってあったけどクリスマス前にやる時間がなかったジンジャーブレッドハウス作りをしました。うまい具合に家が組み立てられなくて個人的にはいらいらしながらの作成だったけど，ウィリアムは楽しかったみたい。

Today, William and I made a small ginger bread house that we had bought but didn't get to do before Christmas. I had a hard time putting each cookie together and got frustrated, but William enjoyed putting candies around the house.


あと2日で今年も終わり。日本の年末とは違って年末の気が全然しません。

There are only two days left for the year. It doesn't feel like though.

クリスマス Christmas

クリスマスは長～い一日でした。
Christmas day was rather a long day.

普通だったらいつも朝一番にプレゼントを開けるけれど，日曜日だったので教会へ行く準備をしなくてはならない関係で，ウィリアムへのいちばん大きいプレゼント（キッチンセット）だけまずあげて，残りのプレゼントは教会から帰ってきてから開けることにしました。
Normally, we do presents first, but since it was Sunday and we had to get ready for church, we just gave William the main gift (kitchen set) and decided to open other gifts after the church.

それからみんなで一緒に夕べ作ったシナモンロールの朝ごはん。
Then we had cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

教会ではクリスマスなので音楽中心の聖餐会一時間で終了。
Since it was Christmas, we only had the sacrament meeting, including many musical numbers.

教会から帰ってからプレゼントを開けました。サンタさんからとお互いからたくさんのプレゼントをもらいました。
After we got back, we opened our gifts. We received many gifts from Santa and from each other.

ここで一休みして昼ご飯。クリスマスなのにラーメン（笑）
We had a break here and had lunch - ramen. lol

それからブライアンとの家族とのクリスマスディナーに持っていく食べ物の準備をしました。ツリーサラダと忍者ブレッドクッキー。
Then I made a tree salad and decorated ninja bread cookies to take to Christmas dinner with Brian's family. 

まずブライアンの両親の家に行って，さらなるプレゼント交換。毎年プレゼントもらいすぎで，ありがたいのだけど心苦しくなる。日本みたいにサンタさんから好きな物一つもらうってのが好きなんだけどな。
We went over to Brian's parents home first to open more presents. Every year, I feel overwhelmed by all the gifts I receive. I'm grateful though.

プレゼントの後は，場所をブライアンの妹家族の家に移動してディナー。
After the presents, we went over to Brian's sister's house (Strassers) for dinner. 

なにやらテーブルの上に置かれていたクラッカー。ひっぱると。。。

There were crackers on the dinner table...

中には紙でできた冠と小さな線引きが入っていました♪
Inside was a paper crown and a small ruler. :)

日本の家族は離れているけれど，ここで一緒にクリスマスをお祝いできる家族がいてありがたいです。
I'm grateful I have a wonderful family here to celebrate Christmas together even though my family is in Japan. 

長い一日だったので，帰りの車の中でウィリアムはぐっすり。
It was a long day, and William fell asleep on the way home.

クリスマスイブ Christmas Eve

今日はクリスマスイブ。昨日も朝からたくさん雪が降って雪かきたくさんしたけど，寝ている間にまたものすごい雪が降って朝から雪かき。かいた雪を置く場所に困ってます。
Today was Christmas Eve. It snowed a lot yesterday and we shoveled a few times, but it snowed a lot again while we were asleep, so we shoveled first thing in the morning. The pile is getting high that we don't know where to put the snow we shoveled.

残りの一日はほぼ台所にいて今日のクリスマスディナーの準備や，明日のブライアントの家族とのクリスマスディナーの準備などで忙しくしてました。
For the rest of the day, I spent most of the time in the kitchen, getting ready for Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas dinner with Brian's family tomorrow. 

昨日は昨日でクリスマスディナーに持っていく予定のジンジャーブレッドクッキーならぬ忍者ブレッドクッキーを焼きました。デコレーションしている暇がなくてまだ顔なしのまんま。
Yesterday, I baked some ninja bread cookies to bring for Christmas dinner tomorrow. I haven't had a chance to put faces yet.

クリスマスイブディナーにはハンガリー風ビーフシチューを作りました。作り方は難しくないけど，だいたい4時間かかります。パプリカがたくさん入っていて個人的には大好きな味です。
For Christmas Eve dinner, we cooked Hungarian beef stew. It's not hard to make, but it takes about 4 hours. It's got a ton of paprika and tastes pretty good to me.

シチューのほかには，グリーンサラダ，フルーツサラダ，パイナップル，アスパラガスの炒め物，スパークリングサイダーでお祝いしました。もちろんウィリアムはおにぎりだったけど。相変わらずこんな感じ。
Besides the stew, we had some green salad, fruit salad, pineapple, asparagus, and sparkling cider to celebrate. Of course William only had half a rice ball...


ディナーの後は，3人で「聖しこの夜」を歌い，聖書のキリスト誕生の箇所やクリスマスストーリーから読み，最後のアドベントカレンダー（クリスマスまでのカウントダウン）をやりました。
After dinner, we sang "Silent Night", read Luke 2 and a Christmas story, and did the last Advent calendar. 

そして，ウィリアムが寝てからは，クリスマスの朝ごはんにシナモンロールが食べたいというブライアンの要望に応えてシナモンロールづくり。朝ごはんって言ったくせに，出来上がってすぐに食べたやつ！まあ自分も食べましたが（苦笑）。
And after William went to bed, I started making cinnamon rolls Brian requested for Christmas breakfast. Well, he said he wanted to have some for breakfast, but he had one right after they came out of the oven. lol I had one too though.

シナモンロールを作りながら，ブライアンと協力してウィリアムのクリスマスプレゼントのキッチンセットを組み立てました。思った以上に手間がかかって苦戦したけどなんとか完了！ウィリアム喜んでくれるといいな。
While I made the cinnamon rolls, Brian and I worked together to assemble William's Christmas present; a kitchen set. It was harder than we thought and took us a while, but we did it! We hope William loves it.


それが終わったのがもう12時近く。カトリック教会のミサをテレビで見ながらブログを更新するためにソファーに座って今に至る。。。で，もう1時半。これ終わったらもうすぐ寝ます。
By the time we finished it, it was almost midnight. We started watching Catholic midnight Mass and while I did that I sat on the couch and started writing my blog. And it's already 1:30 am. I better get to bed soon after I finish this...


ところで，ウィリアムとサンタさんへ手紙を書いて。。。
By the way, William and I wrote a letter to Santa and...

来た～っ，サンタさん！！（笑）
He came! :) 

ミニクリスマス会 Mini Christmas Party

今日ウィリアムと同い年のお子さんがいる駐在さんのお友達二人と子供たちを招待してミニクリスマス会をしました。ここのところ忙しくて出来るかなあと思ったけど，なんとか無事終了。
I hosted a mini Christmas party at home today with two of our Japanese friends who have the same age kids as William. I have been busy lately and I wasn't sure if I could get ready for the party, but I managed to survive. 


ちょっとした活動をしたり，ゲームをしたり，プレゼント交換をしたりして遊びました。
We made candy canes with Froot Loops, played a matching game, did white elephant, etc. 

お昼ごはんも一緒に食べて，あとは子供たちは家じゅうを散らかしまくって楽しく遊んでいました（笑）
We had lunch together as well, and for the rest of the time the kids had great time playing together and making mess all over. :D

疲れたけれど子供たちが楽しんでくれたしやってよかった🎶
I'm glad I decided to have the party. I was exhausted but the kids had a great time.

ウィリアムがプレゼント交換でもらったプレゼント　The gift William got.

これは昨日近所の人など人にあげるために作ったスノーボール（アーモンドボール）。この何倍も作ったけれど一つも食べずにあげちゃいました。クリスマス前に時間があればまた作りたいです。今度はもちろん自分用。(⌒∇⌒)

I baked some snowballs to give out yesterday. I made three times more than this, but they are all gone and I didn't even get to have one. :( I have to bake again for me if I can find time before Christmas. 

雪遊び Playing in the Snow

今日もめちゃくちゃ寒い一日でした。道路もてっかてかに凍ってます。
It was another freaking cold day. The roads are like ice skate rinks. 

今日は朝から教会の姉妹（女性の教会員）の何人かのお宅を訪問しに行ってきました。この写真は訪問後に一緒に訪問したジェニー（ブライアンの家族の知り合いでウィリアムを赤ちゃんのときからよく面倒見てくれてる姉妹）と。ジェニーがウィリアムに松の木の葉っぱの上に積もっている雪を食べるように勧めているところ。ウィリアムは食べませんでした（笑）
William and I went visiting teaching this morning with my companion Jenny. We have four sisters to visit. Jenny has been taking care of William since he was a baby and is the only home we can leave him for hours when we have to go somewhere without him. This picture is when Jenny was telling William to eat the snow that was on the leaves. He didn't eat it, ha ha.

ちょっと写真は見にくいけれど，今晩郵便屋さんが来るのを待ちながら（月曜日は来るのが遅くて，しかもクリスマスシーズンはもっと遅い）ウィリアムは今日までに積もった庭の雪の上でひと遊び。少なくとも20分は雪の上を歩いて足跡を残してました。おかげで一緒に外にいたわたしは寒くて頭痛が💦今晩寝て治るといいけど。今風邪ひいたら困る～～～。
Tonight, before dinner, William wanted to walk on the snow to make footprints. We were actually waiting for the mailman who hadn't come so we could give him a cup of hot chocolate since it was freaking cold! It was actually she, and she didn't come until 7:30 ish, so we missed giving her hot chocolate. But anyway, William kept walking on the snow in our front yard for at least 20 minutes and I had to be outside with him which gave me a headache. I hope I don't get sick right before Christmas!!!

今日は日本の友達からかわいいクリスマスカードが届きました🎅このサンタさんのカードはオーナメントになってます。早速ツリーに飾りました。毎年日本の友達が送ってくれるカード見て思うけど，日本のカードって最高にかわいい💛
Today we received a Christmas card from one of my friends in Japan. This card is an ornament. We put this on our tree. I think Japanese make the cutest cards. 

ストラッサー家のクリスマスパーティー The Strassers Christmas Party

今日はブライアンの妹の旦那さんの家族のお家で毎年恒例のクリスマスパーティーがありました。夕飯には毎年同じチリを食べて，そのあとは年上の子供たちのバイオリンやピアノ演奏，みんなで歌をうたったり，ホワイトエレファント（百円ショップで買ったような安い品物や家にあって使わないような物のプレゼント交換）をします。プレゼントはくだらないものが当たる確率が高くて面白いです。
We went to an annual Christmas party tonight at the Strassers (Brian's sister's husband's parents). Every year we have chili for dinner, and after the dinner, some kids do musical number, we sing some Christmas songs, and do white elephant.

ちなみに自分はやわらか素材でできたおもちゃのミニフットボールが当たり，ウィリアムのオモチャになること決定。ウィリアムは自分ちから持って行った大人用の靴下とチョコレートなどのお菓子が当たりました。ブライアンはペロペロキャンディー🍭笑
I got a small toy football. William's was the gift we brought from home which included a pair of fuzzy socks (for adults) and some candies. Brian got lollipops. lol
