サンタさん Santa

今晩ウィリアムをサンタさんに会わせるために初めてショッピングモールへ連れて行きました🎅
We took William to the mall to see Santa for the first time tonight.

緊張したみたいで，サンタさんに話しかけられても何も答えなかったウィリアム。
He was nervous and didn't say anything to Santa when he talked to him.


クリスマスに何がほしいか聞かれても答えなかったから，後になってプレゼントがもらえるかどうか心配してました（笑）
Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas but he didn't answer, so William was worried later in the car if he could get any Christmas presents. lol

モールの中はクリスマス一色。かわいい雪だるまのディスプレーもありました⛄
The mall was all Christmacy. We found a cute snowman display too.


明日から12月。いよいよ本格的なクリスマスシーズン到来です。
Tomorrow is already December. Christmas is just around the corner.

肉の日 Meat Day

今日は肉の日でした🍖🍖🍖
Today was a meat day! (Only Japanese could understand.)

ということで今晩の夕飯はプルコギ丼。いつ食べてもおいしいプルコギ～💛
So, I cooked bulgogi for dinner. Bulgogi never disappoints me!

それからクリスマスに近所の人や友達にあげるためにクッキーの試作。サンドイッチクッキー（ラズベリーと杏子のジャムの2種類）を作ってみました。クッキー生地が個人的にはもうちょっとやわらかい方がいいので別の今度は別のレシピでやってみます。あとラズベリージャム甘すぎ。明日は今日の残りの生地を使って別のジャムでまた作ってみようと思います。
And I baked some sandwich cookies today. I'm trying to see what kind of cookies and treats would be good to give out to our neighbors and friends for Christmas. These ones turned out okay. I like the cookie part to be a little softer though. I will try to make them again with a different cookie dough recipe next time. And raspberry jam was too sweet for me, so I'll try with another jam to see if it's better.

プレイデート Playdate

今日は午後からウィリアムと同じく日本人のハーフのお友達とバーガーキングの子供の遊び場コーナーで遊びました。結構最近知り合ったばかりのお友達で，しかもものすごく近くにすんでいるのに，あと一週間かそこらでポートランドの近くに引っ越してしまうんです。😢
We had a playdate this afternoon at Burger King's play area with one of our friends. We met them not too long ago and they live so close to us, but they are moving to Portland area in like a week or so. So sad!


最近一度我が家に遊びに来てもらって遊んで，今回遊ぶのは2度目。2時間以上ずーっと遊んでました。
We had our first playdate about two weeks ago at our house and this was our 2nd one. They played for over 2 hours!

それからそのお友達のお母さんからなんとお赤飯をいただきました💛めったに食べることないから久しぶりに食べておいしかった～。しかもごま塩までつけてくれてうれし～い。
And the mom gave me Sekihan (rice with red beans). I never make them, so it had been a while. It was yummy. She even gave me some sesame & salt to put on the rice which makes a huge difference.

それから今晩は，クリスマスに向けてとりあえずクリスマスストッキングとアドベントカレンダーを出しました🎅
And tonight, we hung our Christmas stockings, and got our advent calendar out.

超真剣な二人（笑）They look so serious. lol

アドベントカレンダーは一日ごとに3つずつお菓子（Kissチョコなどの4種類のチョコ）を入れて，12月1日から24日まで毎日開けてカウントダウンしていきます。12月までもうあと2日なんて信じられない！
We put three candies in each box, so we can each have one a day as we open the box and count down till Christmas. I can't believe December is only two days away!

新しい靴下 New Socks

今朝Walmartに行ったときに靴下を買いました。
I bought socks this morning while at Walmart.

時間がなくてまあいいだろうと思う靴下をサッと選んだのだけど，今袋から出してみてびっくり。よく見るとマッチする靴下がない(*_*)
I didn't have much time, so quickly picked the ones that looked decent enough. I just got them out of the grocery bag and realized none of them matched! 

お店にあんなにたくさんあった靴下の中でこれ選ぶか？！まあちゃんと見ず・読まずに買った自分が悪い。ちょっと履く勇気ないから返品しようと思ってるけれど，いっそのこと履いちゃう？！
Out of all the socks at the store, I picked this one of course...I don't think I'm brave enough to wear them, so I'm thinking of going back to the store to return them, but should I just keep them?!

感謝祭 Thanksgiving

おとといは感謝祭でした。今年は初めて自分たちの家で感謝祭のディナーをすることに決めて，ブライアンの両親家族を招待していたのでいろいろ心配していました。
It was Thanksgiving on the 23rd. This year, we decided to cook Thanksgiving dinner by ourselves, and had invited Brian's family to have the dinner with us, so I was worried if everything would go well.

まず先日のターキー🐤朝起きたらまだ中が凍ってる～～～💦ほんとうはオーブンに入れる前に内臓が入ったパッケージ？みたいのと首の骨を取り出さなくてはならないのだけど，凍ってて取れず，最初に1時間ほどオーブンで焼いて，溶けたころに取り出しました。ちなみにそういうグロテスクなことはブライアンはできないからわたしの役目💪
When we woke up in the morning, our turkey was still pretty frozen inside.😱We were supposed to take giblet and neck out before we cooked, but we couldn't get them out since the turkey was frozen, so we first had to cook it in the oven for about an hour before we could get them out. By the way, I was the one who took the giblet and neck out. Brian didn't want to touch them. What a wimp!


あとはターキーはブライアンにやってもらい，わたしは他のものの準備（スタッフィング，野菜，スイートポテトなど）をしました。思っていたよりも結構みんな簡単に作れてちょっと安心。でも出来上がったターキーの写真を撮り忘れてしまって残念！
Brian was in charge of the turkey, and I cooked the rest (stuffing, vegetables, sweet potatoes, etc.). Surprisingly, they were all pretty simple to make, so I was relieved. I'm sad that I forgot to take the picture of the turkey!

ブライアンの家族がマッシュポテトとロールパンを作って持ってきてくれました。あときれいなお花も🌻

Brian's family brought mashed potatoes, rolls, and beautiful flowers. 

1時からの予定で結局2時ころになっちゃったけれど，無事に準備が整ってブライアンの家族と一緒に良い時間を過ごすことができました。おいしい食事とすてきな家族に囲まれて感謝です。
We were planning on having the dinner at 1pm, but didn't get everything ready until 2 pm. Nonetheless, we were able to have a good time with Brian's family, having a great food. 


これまでは感謝祭の食事を自分たちで作るのは無理って思ってたけれど，今回やってみてなんとかできるもんだなと。来年はブライアンの弟家族も来るので我が家ではやらないので自分たちで作る必要はないけれど，再来年また自分たちできそうです。
I never thought we would be able to host Thanksgiving dinner, but it wasn't all that hard. It was a lot of work, but was kind of fun. Next year, Brian's brother's family will be in town, so we'll be having Thanksgiving dinner probably at Brian's sister's home, and we won't have to cook the whole thing, but the year after that, I wouldn't mind hosting Thanksgiving dinner again.


ところで感謝祭の次の日と言えばブラックフライデー。一年に一度の大セールのために多くの人が買い物（店頭とオンラインの両方で）をします。わたしたちは人混みが嫌いなのであまり行かないのだけど，一応本屋さんに家族のクリスマスプレゼント購入を兼ねて出かけてきました。朝10時前でもものすごい人がいました。
By the way, the day after Thanksgiving is of course Black Friday. We don't like going shopping in a crowd, so don't go out for shopping that much, but we went to the bookstore to buy some Christmas presents for our family members. We went there before 10am, but there were already many people shopping.

自分のためには買う予定なかったけれど，スペイン語勉強のために子供の本を4冊買いました。英語とスペイン語両方で書かれていてとても便利です。
I wasn't planning on buying anything for myself, but I found some children's books written in both English and Spanish, and thought they would be good to study Spanish, so I bought four of them.

それから家族で遊べるようにモノポリーのディズニー版も買いました。家に帰って来てから遊んだけど，ん～っ，微妙な感じ。延々と続くし楽しいっていうか疲れました。苦笑
And besides Christmas presents for our family, we bought Disney version of Monopoly for ourselves. We played it after we came home, but it went on and on and was rather tired than fun, ha ha.

パイ Pies

明日は感謝祭です。朝からオーブンはターキーに占領されてしまうので，今日のうちにパイを作りました。朝から晩まで一日パイを作り続けて4つ完成♫ピーカンパイ，アップルパイ，パンプキンパイ，チョコレートパイです。これだけ作ると達成感ありあり。明日もしターキーがうまく焼けなかったとしても少なくともパイはあるから心配いらないや。笑
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. The turkey will be in the oven all morning, so I had to bake pies today. I started in the morning and worked all day, and made 4 pies - pecan, apple, pumpkin, and chocolate! I feel very accomplished! Even if our turkey doesn't turn out well, we will at least have pies to eat tomorrow. :) 

ピアノ Piano

去年からウィリアムはLet's Play Musicという音楽のクラスに週一で行っています。今年度からはクラスでピアノも教わるようになりました。
William has been taking Let's Play Music class since last year. it's his second year, and in the second year, the kids get to learn how to play the keyboard. 


毎週決められたピアノ課題を週に最低5回練習することが宿題です。ピアノをいちばん最初に練習し出したころは，弾けるようになるかなあと微妙な感じでしたが，週5回がんばって練習してきてだいぶ上手になってきました。最近は自分で勝手にピアノのところに行って練習したりすることもあります。
William practices the piano 5 times a week. That's his homework. When he just started to play the piano, I wasn't sure if he would be able to learn well, but after practicing 5 times a week for a few months, he has improved a lot. He sometimes goes over to the piano and start playing by himself.

自分が子供のころピアノの宿題とか練習とか全然ちゃんとやって行かなかったから，ウィリアムには頑張ってほしいなぁ～。なんて自分がやらなかったくせに子供に高望みする親（笑）
When I was taking a piano lesson when I was young, I didn't really practice the piano or do homework, and of course I never got better, so I hope William will continue to enjoy practicing regularly and get better. 

メリディアン神殿奉献式 Meridian Temple Dedication

今日は近頃オープンハウスがあったメリディアン神殿の奉献式がありました。今後神殿には，一般の人はもとより教会員でも推薦状がないと参入できません。
Today was Meridian Temple dedication. From now on, the general public and those members who don't have the recommend can't enter the temple.

奉献式には，教会の大管長会顧問のウークトドルフ管長と十二使徒のクリストファーソン長老，ビショップリックのコセービショップ，七十人のソアレス長老，ダンカン長老ならびにデュベ長老が来られました。
President Uchtdorf, a counselor in the first presidency, Elder Christofferson of the twelve, Bishop Caussé of the Brishopric, Elders Soares, Duncan, and Dube of the seventy cam to the decication.


デュベ長老はジンバブエ出身で英語のなまりが強く，話をされたときに，ものすごく集中して話を聴いていてもよく分からない感じでした。そこで集中力を使い果たしてしまい，次の話者のクリストファーソン長老の話のときには気が抜けて睡魔に襲われてしまいました（笑）
Elder Dube is from Zimbabwe, and has a strong accent. As he spoke, I tried really hard to pay attention to understand him, but sill could not understand most of what he said. I used up all the energy and concentration there, so when Elder Christofferson spoke after Elder Dube, I was totally falling asleep...


前日の土曜日には，文化の祭典といって，メリディアン神殿地区内に住む教会の青少年たちによるショーがありました。アイダホはユタと同じように教会員が多いのはもちろん知っていたけれど，ほんとうにたくさんいるんだなあとあらためて驚き。
On Saturday, there was a Meridian temple cultural celebration. All the youth from the temple district gathered and performed. It was so neat to see so many youth participating in the event.

寿司 Sushi

先週11日はブライアンとわたしの結婚6周年記念日でした。でもケンカしたから予定していた寿司ディナーはキャンセルして，一週間後の今日行ってきました。ウィリアムはお友達に見ていてもらいました。
Last Saturday (the 11th) was our anniversary and we were planning on going out for dinner at a sushi place, but we got into an argument in the morning, and I was just too upset to go out, so ended up not going, so we went out tonight instead. Our friend watched William while we were gone.


行ってきたのはダウンタウンにあるShige（しげ）というお寿司屋さん。お寿司だけじゃなくてほかの日本の食べ物も置いてあります。メニューに焼き鳥があって食べたーいって思って頼んだら，めっちゃ予想外の焼き鳥が出てきたーっ！普通にねぎまの焼き鳥期待してたんだけど，フランス料理？みたいな感じにお皿に乗ったやつと，網でまだ焼いてる途中のやつが出てきてちょっと言葉に困った。日本の焼き鳥食べたい！
We went to a sushi shop called Shige in downtown Boise. They had other Japanese food as well. One of the items on the menu was Yakitori (grilled chicken) and I wanted to have some, thinking it would be the same as the one we normally eat in Japan, but it was so different and totally surprised me. One of the skewer was on a nice white plate looking like a French dish, and the other skewer came on the grill. I didn't know what to say. lol I miss real Yakitori!

長ネギならぬ玉ねぎ。。。

We don't use regular onions for Yakitori in Japan...

メインはもちろんお寿司。二人とも寿司のセット（松コース）を頼みました。これで21ドルくらい。

As a main dish, both of us ordered a sushi plate, Matsu (pine) course. It was about $21. 

最初の一口食べて大ショック。全部さび入りでしたー💦💦💦わさび入ってるのにさらにこんもりお皿にわさびがついてきた！ほかのお寿司屋さんでは，わさびは普通入ってないので，サプライズのさび入り寿司にはやられました。ブライアンはわさび好きなので大丈夫でした。わさびでせっかくのディナーを台無しにされた気分だったけど，ブライアンが誕生日プレゼントで弟夫婦から30ドル分のギフト券をもらってあったのでそれを使って安く食べられたのでよかったです。

I was shocked as I put my first sushi into my mouth because it had wasabi in it! Normally, sushi places don't put wasabi in the sushi, but on the side, so I didn't expect it to be on my sushi. Brian didn't care since he likes wasabi. Wasabi ruined my dinner, but at least we were able to use a $30 gift card given by Brian's brother and his wife for his birthday, and didn't have to pay the whole price.


そういえばだけど，先週結婚記念日に（ケンカしてたから次の日）ブライアンから薔薇の花束とカードをもらいました。もっといい妻・母になれるように頑張ります。。。
By the way, these are the roses Brian gave me for our anniversary (He gave them to me the next day since we were fighting, or more like I was not talking to him, ha ha). I'll try to be a better wife and a mother...

ピザ Pizza

今日は夕飯にピザを作りました。ブライアンがマルゲリータピザがいいと言うので大人二人用にマルゲリータ。
I made pizza for dinner tonight. Brian wanted to have a margherita pizza, so I made one (actually ended up making two of them) margherita for us.

ウィリアムにはチョコロールパンと作ったときに同じ生地を使ってミニサラミピザを作りました。
And some mini salami pizza for William since that's the only kind of pizza he eats.

マルゲリータピザは結構コツがいて，何回作ってもなかなか理想のマルゲリータに仕上がりません。でも今回は今までの中ではいちばんよかったかも。次回はもっとおいしくできたらいいなあ。
I've found it hard to make margherita pizza. This was my third or fourth time I had made, but I just can't quite get it right. But I think today's turned out the best. I hope I make it better next time.


時間はさかのぼりますが，今日午前中は病院の血液検査に行ってきて，それからウィリアムと七面鳥の工作をしました。
So going back to the morning, I went to have a lab work done at a hospital. William didn't have school, so we went together. And after we came home, we made this turkey thing.

かわいくできたでしょう？
It turned out pretty cute, didn't it?

ところでこれ，不明の人からのもらいもの。夕べだれかが玄関のベルを鳴らして，出てみたらだれもいなく，紙バッグの中にこんなものが。ハローウィンでもやられたのと同じ系の感謝祭版。また今度は別の人にやりに行かなければならない。。。でもこういうの大好きなので楽しみ♪
 By the way, this was given by unknown person probably from our church. He/she rang our door bell and when we opened the door, nobody was there but there was a paper bag which had these things in. "We've been gobbled!" I didn't know this thing existed. I didn't even know there was "We've been booed!" thing when we were booed. Now we have to do it to others again, but I love doing it. :) 

午後はスペイン語を習いにマリエラの家へ。相変わらずちんぷんかんぷんです（笑）
In the afternoon, we went to Mariela's house to learn Spanish. Still have no clue most of the time what Mariela's talking about. lol


それからこれは今朝無理やりウィリアムに書かせたじいじへの誕生日メッセージ。寝起きでぼやっとしているところを慣れない日本語で頑張って書きました。一日遅れだったけどじいじお誕生日おめでとう🎉
And I made William write a birthday message to his ji-ji (Japanese grandpa) this morning. He did his best in writing it in Japanese right after he woke up. It was a day late, but Happy Birthday ji-ji!

七面鳥 Turkey

感謝祭まであと一週間。今年は自分で感謝祭の料理を作ることになってしまったので，今日買ってきましたよ，七面鳥！重さ約7キロ。七面鳥は冷凍されているもので，それを一週間かけて冷蔵庫で解凍します。
One week from Thanksgiving. This year, I have to cook Thanksgiving dinner myself, so I went grocery shopping today and got a 15 lb turkey. It's in the process of being thawed in the fridge. It takes a week to thaw you know.

七面鳥のほかにも，マッシュポテト，スタッフィング，ロールパン，グリーンサラダ，フルーツサラダ，パイ（パンプキン，アップル，ピーカン），ヤムいも，コーンなどを準備します。
Besides turkey, we will have mashed potatoes, rolls, stuffing, green salad, fruit salad, pies (pumpkin, apple, and pecan), yam, and corn. 


マッシュポテトとロールパンはブライアンの家族に担当してもらうのでいいけど，いちばん心配なのは七面鳥と，感謝祭には欠かせないパイ。
My in-laws are bringing mashed potatoes and rolls, so that helps. What I'm worried about the most is the turkey and pies.

一週間後笑ってるか泣いてるか，乞うご期待。
Let's see if I'm smiling or crying in a week. lol


ところで，今日ウィリアムのインフルエンザの予防接種行ってきました。その後一日足が痛いと言って夜寝るまでこんな感じに歩いてました。超大げさで笑える。
By the way, William had a flu shot today. Afterward, he was limping all day. Totally overreacting, it makes me laugh.

スクールピクチャー School Picture

アメリカの学校では学年初めに個人の写真撮影があります。学生証とかあるわけじゃないんだけど記念にって感じで。その写真が出来上がって来たので載せます。
In the United States, schools do school picture at the beginning of school year. William's school had theirs done recently and the picture came back.

この作り笑いがなんとも言えない。そして背景の緑。グレー，青，緑，赤，紫から選べます。無難に青とかグレーでいってほしかったけど，緑がいいとか言うもんだから仕方なく。
William is not photogenic at all. Look at this fake smile. And this green background...He could have chosen from gray, blue, green, red, and purple, and I wanted him to choose either gray or blue, but of course he chose a different color.

ダクトクリーニング Duct Cleaning

もう日が変わってしまったけど，今日はダクト（暖房や冷房の空気が出てくる管）の掃除を業者さんにやってもらいました。この家に来てから4年たつけれど一度もやったことがなく，以前の家主もやったことがないようで，少なくとも10年は掃除されていませんでした。
So the day has changed already, but today we had our ducts cleaned. We've lived in this house for 4 years now, but it had never been done before. And the former owner didn't think it had been done, so that's another 6 years or so. So, it hadn't been done for 10 years at least.


少なくとも3時間はかかったかな。その間暖房を切らなくてはならなくて，今日はとても寒い日だったので（朝マイナス4度。最高気温7度）大丈夫かなと思ったけれど，天気が良い日だったこともあって家の中に差し込む太陽の光でなんとか大丈夫でした。🌞
It took at least 3 hours. In the meantime, the furnace had to be turned off. And since it was a cold day (It got down to 25 degrees this morning, and the high was 45 ish.), so I was worried if I could survive, but luckily it was such a beautiful days and we got sun light coming in to the room, so we survived fine.

これまで家具がすぐ埃だらけになっていたけど，これでかなり良くなることを期待。
Our house used to get so dusty soon after we dust, but hopefully this will help a lot.


ところで，昨日あんまりウィリアムに優しくしてあげられなくて（ウィリアムが言うこと聞かなかったりってのもあるんだけど）今日は昨日より優しくしてあげたいって思ってたのに，やっぱもめ事が起きてまたキレた。そしたらウィリアムが何やら紙を持ってやってきて，お母さんが優しくなれるようにチャートを作ったと言って渡された。今日もまたダメ母だったけど，明日からはこのチャートのおかげでちょっと良くなれるかも？（笑）
So yesterday, I wasn't all that nice to William (it's part of his fault. He gets too naughty sometimes you know), and I thought I wanted to be nicer today. But things happen, and once again I lose it. Then William came back to me with a piece of paper saying "I made a chart for you. It's a Be Kind Be Good chart." I failed again today, but with the help of the chart, I might do better tomorrow.

11月 November

もう11月です。信じられない。
It's already November. Can you believe it?


昨日は寒くなってスプリンクラーの管？が凍ってしまう前に，スプリンクラーに残った水の水抜き？をしてもらいました。これで一安心。
Yesterday we had our sprinklers blown out before it gets frozen. Now we are safe.

今朝は朝7時半ころにウィリアムに起こされて起きました。ウィリアムは昨日マリエラのうちにスペイン語を学びに行ったときに，待ってる間に紙に数字の1から200くらいまで書いて，それを見たマリエラが今度は1000まで見たいと言ったら，1000まで書く決心をしたようで，昨日家に帰って来てから3時くらいから6時くらいまでず～っと続きの数字を書き続けていました。ご飯を食べた後も寝る前までずーっと数字を書いていました。それでも終わらなかったけれど，今朝起きてすぐにまたすぐ書き始めて，今日の午前中にやっと終わりました。ある意味すごい集中力。
So, William woke me up around 7:30 this morning. He wanted to get up and work on the "numbers" he had been working on since yesterday. What happened is when we went to Mariela's house to learn Spanish yesterday, while waiting for me to study, he started writing numbers from 1. He wrote up to 200 I think. Then Mariela told him she wanted to see him write to 1000 next time, and as soon as we came home, he started writing numbers again and worked for three hours until dinner time. Then after the dinner, he continued working on it until bedtime, but he had a lot more to write to get to 1000. So this morning, as soon as he got up, he was ready to write again, and after working on it for a while, he finally finished. I'm very impressed with his determination and his long attention span.

今日は午後2時間ほど，ボイシに日本語補習校的なものを設立することに興味を持っている人たち10人ほどで集まり，話し合いをしました。ウィリアムが5歳の段階でもう日本語を話さなくなってきているので，そういった日本語を練習することのできる場所ができたら助かります。いろんな問題があって時間はかかりそうだけれど，話がうまく進んでいくといいな。
This afternoon, I went to a meeting where people who are interested in establishing a Japanese supplementary school in Boise area. William is already refusing to speak in Japanese at the age of 5, so it would be really nice to have a place he can study Japanese with other kids. It will take a while to establish one, but hopefully things will go well and we will be able to have one here in our area.


その後は夕方からまたメリディアン神殿のオープンハウスに行ってきました。今度はブライアンと一緒に働いているビルと，ビルと一緒に住んでいる日本人の靖弘君，そしてその学生時代の友達と一緒に行ってきました。今回は記念写真のコーナーで写真を撮ってもらいました。📷
And this evening, we went to the Meridian temple open house again. This time with Brian's partner Bill, and Yasu who lives with him, and Matt who was Yasu's classmate at BSU. We had our picture taken at the photo booth this time. :)

オープンハウスの後，ビルがみんなを食事に連れて行ってくれました。先日誕生日のときに行ったメキシカン料理やさん。いつもごちになってばかりです。写真は撮り忘れてしまったけれど，毎度のことボリュームのありました。
After the open house, Bill took all of us for dinner. We went to the Mexican restaurant we went to for my birthday. I forgot to take the picture of the food, but it was a lot of food as usual.
