メモリアル・デー Memorial Day

今日はメモリアルデーで月曜だけどブライアンも仕事休みでした。
It was Memorial Day today, and Brian was off work.

今年からボーイスカウトの人たちに祝日ごとにアメリカの国旗を立ててもらうことにしました。ウィリアムと記念写真📷
This year, we decided to have scouts put an American flag in our yard on holidays, and here is the picture of it with William. :)

午前中はブライアンと裏庭のフェンス沿いに広がり放題だったツタの葉を取り除ける作業をしました。結構頑張ったと思ったのに，全体の10分の1くらいしかできてない。夏いっぱいかかりそうです。
In the morning, Brian and I worked on pulling out some of the ivy vines that have been growing crazy in our backyard. After working so hard, we realized we had only pulled out probably 10 percent of the whole thing. It will probably take whole summer to get all of them out. 

ブライアンの叔父さん（ブライアンのお父さんの弟）がちょうどコロラド州から来ていたので，家族みんなで集まって夕方からバーベキューディナーをしました。
Uncle Mike (Brian's dad's younger brother) was in town, so we all got together and had BBQ for dinner. 

子供たちは食べ終わったら水風船で遊んでわいわいやってました。ウィリアム水風船大好きなんです。きっとまた近いうちにやらされるな～。
Kids had a blast, having water balloon fight afterwards. William loves it and I have a feeling we will have to do it soon. 

プリスクール卒業 Preschool Graduation

今日はウィリアムのプリスクール卒業式でした。
It was William's preschool graduation today.

最初にこの一年で学んだことをみんなで発表して，プリスクールでのハイライトをまとめたビデオを見ました。
First the kids showed us what they had learned for the last 9 months. Then we watched a video that had highlights from preschool.

それから卒業証書をもらって。。。
Then, each kid received a diploma.

William's grandparents came from Caldwell. Thank you, Kathi and Steve!

卒業式の後はみんなで公園へ行ってパーティー。昨日作ったカップケーキもほぼ完食♪
After the ceremony, we all went to a Sycamore park nearby and had a party. Those cupcakes I made yesterday were almost all gone. :)

この9か月でウィリアムだいぶ成長しました。教えてくれたジェニー先生に感謝です。
William learned a lot in the last 9 months. Thank you Miss Jennie for teaching him!

バランスバイク Balance Bike

今日はウィリアム久しぶりにバランスバイクに乗ると言って裏庭に出て乗りました。🚴明日プリスクールの卒業式だからやる気上がってるのかな？笑
William all the sudden decided he wanted to ride on a balanced bike for the first time in months! He must be so excited about his preschool graduation tomorrow. lol

ところで，その卒業式のパーティー用にカップケーキを24個持っていく予定になっていて，作りました！12個は卒業帽の形。どちらもめんどくさくて疲れたけれどなかなかかわいくできてよかった（＾＾）
Speaking of graduation, I'm supposed to bring 24 cupcakes for the party tomorrow. so I did. 12 of them have a graduation cap. I found them on pinterest, so just had to make it. :)

ストロベリー・ルバーブパイ Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

先週友達にルバーブ（大黄，ダイオウ）をもらって，やっと今日重い腰を持ち上げてパイを作りました。
My friend gave me some rhubarb from her backyard last week, and I finally made a pie today.

パイクラストが結構うまくできました♪まだ冷えるのを待っている最中で食べてないけれどおいしいといいなあ～。
I'm happy the crust came out pretty good. I haven't tasted it yet (still waiting for it to be cooled), but hope it tastes good as it looks. 

ところで今日は結構暑かったので，オーブン使うのけっこうしんどかった～。夕飯作るのにもオーブン使ったのでキッチンの温度が結構上がって大変でした。
It was pretty hot today, and using oven didn't help. I used the oven to cook dinner too, so I was sweating in the kitchen!

シシカバブ Shish Kebab

ついにシシカバブの季節がやってきましたー！羊の肉を使ったバーベキュー。お肉をレモン汁，ガーリック，玉ねぎ，オリーブオイル，ローリエなどを入れて何時間も前もってマリネ漬けしておきます。羊の肉のくさみがほとんどなくなって最高においしい💖

Shish Kebab season has finally arrived! You marinade lamb in lemon juice, garlic, onions, olive oil, bay leaf, etc. ahead of time for at least a few hours, and you can't smell the strong lamb smell anymore. It's sooooooo good! My favorite!

ウィリアムは食べないので，一人だけ仲間はずれに感じないように果物などを小さめの串と爪楊枝に刺してあげました。笑

William doesn't eat shish kebabs, so I made special kebabs with fruits and stuff for him. :) He liked them.

またまた動物園へ！ Zoo Again!

今日はまた動物園へ行きました！と言っても目的は2日前に買った例のかわいくないキリンの傘がすでに壊れたので（一度も使ってないのに！）交換してもらいに行ってきました。年間パスがあってよかった。ただで入場できるから。
William and I went to the zoo again today! Well, the umbrella we just bought two days ago already broke, so we went to exchange it. Luckily we had a year pass that we could get in free.

動物園行ったらやっぱり傘交換だけでは済まず。やっぱりまたお約束のキリンの滑り台。
Of course William didn't just let me exchange the umbrella.

ほかにも少しだけ動物を見て30分以内に帰って来ました。今日は先日とはうって変わって暑いのなんのって！
We saw some animals, and William slid down the giraffe slide, etc. but only stayed about 30 minutes. It was such a hot day, totally opposite from two days ago. 

今日は午後からお友達の家に遊びに行きました。家の裏庭で遊び，近くの公園でもしばらく遊び，あとはお家の中でレゴをやって遊びました。お友達と遊ぶ約束があったりするとウィリアムも楽しそうだし時間が早く過ぎてくれて助かります。
In the afternoon, we went to our friends house. The kids played in their backyard, at a park just across the street from their house, and after that they played with Lego for a while. It like having a playdate because the time goes by quicker and William seems happier playing with friends.

ところで今日はこれ完成しました。おとといの「活動の日」の活動でクロススティッチをやったのでその残りを完成させました。小さいけど結構時間かかる。でもこういうの大好き♪
And today, I finished this little cross stitch project that I started two days ago at Activity Days. It's small but took a while to complete. I love this type of things. :)

遠足で動物園へ Field Trip to the Zoo

今日はYMCAのELR（Early Learning Readiness）プログラムの最後の日で，動物園へ遠足に行きました。
It was the last day of YMCA's ELR (Early Learning Readiness) program, and we went on a field trip to the zoo.


心配していた雨には降られなかったものの，とても寒い日で冬物のコートが必要なほど。5月なのにありえな～い！
The forecast was rain, but we were blessed with no rain. However, it was super cold that we had to wear winter jackets in May! Insane! 

ありえないと言えば，昨日は雹が降りました！（下の写真参照）
Speaking of insane, it hailed yesterday! (See the picture below.)

動物園に話を戻して。。。
Back to the zoo story...


まあいつものとおりですが，お約束のキリンの滑り台をやったり，動物を一通り見て回ったり，メリーゴーランドに乗ったりしました。
As usual, we did giraffe slide and went to see all the animals, ride on the carousel etc.

そして，お土産やさんでキリンの傘を買いました。ぶさいくだと思うけど，ぶさいくな中でもこれがいちばんまともだった（笑）
And I bought William an umbrella at the souvenir shop. I think it's so ugly but it was the best out of all other umbrella they had. lol

去年と今年，ELRプログラムで親子で貴重な経験ができたことに感謝しています。来年からはスポンサーがいなくてこのプログラムなくなっちゃうそうなので残念。
I'm grateful that William and I were able to be a part of the ELR program for the last two years. It was a very valuable experience for us. It's sad that this program won't be available this coming year because YMCA couldn't find any sponsors for the program. :(

母の日 Mother's Day

今日は母の日でした。
Happy Mother's Day to all the women out there!

親になってから，親の気持ちがよ～く分かるようになった気がします。特に親が怒るわけが分かる分かる！笑
Since I became a mother, I can understand how parents feel. I can totally understand why they get mad at their kids! lol

わたしを生んで育ててくれた母親に（そして父親にも）感謝してもしきれないけど感謝。いや～ほんと自分が自分みたいのを育てなくちゃならなかったら狂うわー。苦笑
I can't express enough how thankful I am for my mom (and for my dad as well) for raising me. I would go nuts if I had to raise a kid like me! lol

教会では18歳以上のすべての姉妹（女性）がSee's Candyのチョコレートバーをもらいました💛
At church, all the women over 18 years old got a See's Candy bar. Sweet!

ウィリアムからはカードと，プリスクールとYMCAのクラスで作った手形と手形入りの鍋敷き。
And I got some presents (handprints) and a card from William. 

ブライアンからはダリア🌻とチェリーパイ♪チェリーパイは甘すぎず，最高においしかった💛
And Brian gave me dahlia and a Sheri's famous cherry pie. It was super yummy!

そして夜はCaldwellに行ってブライアンの家族と集まって食事会。ブライアンのお母さんから鉢植えに入ったアジサイをもらいました💛ブライアンのお母さんには自分の母親が近くにいないけれどいつもよくしてもらっていて感謝しています。
And in the evening, we went down to Caldwell for family dinner. Kathi (mother-in-law) gave me hydrangea in a pot. So sweet. She has always been good to me and I'm very thankful for her especially since I'm far away from my own mother.

世界中のすべての女性たちが―結婚しているか否かにかかわらず，また子供がいるか否かにかかわらず―自分が特別な存在であって，多くの違った形で特別な母親としての役割りを果たしていることに気づくことができますように。
I hope every woman in the world, whether they are married or single, have children or not, can feel and know that they are special and play an important role of motherhood in many different ways. 

畑 Garden

今日はようやく畑を整えて野菜や果物の苗を植えました！
We finally planted plants in our garden today!

今年は大きいトマトと枝豆とカンタロープメロン（マスクメロン）は種から植えて室内で育てました。
This year, I grew tomatoes, cantaloupe, and edamame beans from the seeds and kept them in a planter in the house until it's ready to plant.

植えようとしているときに思いがけなく雹が降ってきてありえな～い！二日前は最高気温28度もあったのに，今日は朝3度しかなくて最高気温も15度ほど。朝は風もあって寒かった～！
While we were working on the garden, it started hailing! Whaaat?! It got up to 85 or so a few days ago, but today it was so cold! It was like 38 in the morning, and high was like 58. It was windy too in the morning.

とにかく雨にもぼちぼち降られながらの作業だったけれど，一応苗を植え終えました。先の野菜果物に加えて，今朝買ってきた日本のキュウリと日本のナス，ミニトマトも植えました。にらは去年植えたものがまたにょきにょき出てきてます。
Anyway, it rained now and then, but we were able to finish all the plants we bought today. Along with the plants I mentioned earlier, we went to Home Depot this morning and got some Japanese cucumbers, Japanese eggplants, and cherry tomatoes, and planted them all. And we have chives from last year already growing too.

あとはバジルとタイバジルとミントもプランターで育てます。
And we also got some sweet basil, Thai basil, and sweet mint. We'll be growing them in planters.

我が家の裏庭は陽当たりが非常に悪くて上手に野菜や果物が育ちません。今年はどれだけ収穫できるかな。
Our backyard doesn't get much light, so the garden doesn't do so well, but hopefully we can harvest some.

YMCAプリスクール 卒業式 YMCA Preschool Graduation

日が変わってしまったけれど，今日はYMCAの幼児教育プログラム（プリスクール）の室内でのクラスの最終日でした（来週水曜日に動物園にみんなで行って終了）。インストラクターがみんなのために簡単な卒業式を開いてくれました。
The day has already changed, but today was the last day (in class) of YMCA preschool (Early Learning Readiness program) in class. We have a field trip to the zoo next Wednesday and it's completely done. Since it was the last day in class today, the instructor prepared a little graduation ceremony for the kids.

みんな帽子をかぶって一人ずつ卒業証書をもらって記念写真。
Each kid got a hat and received a certificate one by one. And they had some pictures taken. 

去年よりも今年はウィリアムがもっとのびのびとクラスに参加できて，去年からだいぶ成長した様子が見られたこの8か月半。もうこれで最後でさみしくなります。
Compared to the last year, William was able to participate a lot more this year and I could see his growth so much in the past 8 1/2 months. I'll miss attending this class with him.


でも9月からは幼稚園で新たな生活が始まるのでまた元気にたくさん学んでいってほしいです。
William will be starting kindergarten this fall, so I hope he will continue to have a good time and learn many things in the new environment. 

音楽の発表会 Music Recital

今朝はウィリアムの音楽のクラス（Let's Play Music）の年度末の発表会がありました。
We went to Let's Play Music (William's music class) recital this morning.


まずウィリアム達一年目の生徒が何曲か演奏して，次に二年目の生徒，次に三年目の生徒が演奏しました。
First, the first year students (that included William) played, then the second year students, and the third year students. 

ウィリアムは，なんだか自分がしなければいけないことが分かっていないようで，見ている方はハラハラしましたが，なんとか無事に終了してほっとしました。ただ茫然と立ち尽くしているだけかもしれないと思っていたけれど，一応ベルの演奏とパペットショーの振り付けの一部はやってくれたのでよかったです。
As for William, he looked very confused as he went up to the front. He didn't seem he knew what he was supposed to do, and I felt uneasy as I watched him. I wasn't sure if he would participate any, but he did play bells and did parts of hand signs for the puppet show. 

最後に生徒全員でドレミの歌の演奏でフィナーレ。一人ずつ各レベルを卒業したしるしとしてロゼットをもらいました。ウィリアムはロゼットを枕元において今晩ねました（笑）
At the end, all the students played Do Re Mi song (Sound of Music song) together. Each student got a rosette for graduating their levels. William went to bed with the rosette tonight. lol

今年度の音楽のクラスは終了だけれど8月末からまた2年目のクラスが始まります。来年はもっとのびのび発表できるかなぁ。
The first year class is over now, but the second year one will start at the end of August again. I hope William will be able to perform with more confident at the recital next year.

それから・・・発表会の後にリフレッシュメントがでたのですが，さあ食べようと思った時には発表会が始まる前にあったはずのドーナツがもうない！！😨それで残り一日ずっとドーナツ食べたいモードで作っちゃいました。始めて作ったにしては上出来。おいしかった～♪
And...I had to make some doughnuts today. There was a refreshment after the music recital, and I saw some doughnuts before the recital started, but when I went to get some after the recital was over, they were all gone!!! I really wanted to eat doughnuts, so of course I had to make them. They turned out great for the first time. They were so yummy!

いろいろなお祝いの日 Celebration Day

今日はいろいろなお祝いごとがありました。
There were three different things to celebrate today.


まずは朝YMCAのクラスで，お友達のマケーナちゃんの5歳の誕生日のお祝いをおやつの時間にしました☆
First of all, it was one of the ELR friends' 5th birthday and we celebrated during the snack time.

続いて今日はこどもの日。こいのぼりと兜の前でウィリアムの写真をパシャリ。兜についている服は来年はもう小さくて着れなそう。
Next, it was Children's Day (Japanese holiday). The costume he has on won't probably fit next year. :(

それから今日はメキシコの祝日，シンコ・デ・マヨ（5月5日）。夜メキシコ出身のマリエラの家でパーティーがあり，家族で行ってきました。本場のメキシコ料理を食べたり，ピニャータ割りをしたり，楽しい時間を過ごしました。
Also today was Cinco de Mayo (Mexican holiday). We went to Mariela's house for the party in the evening, and had a lot of good food including real Mexican food. We also did Piñata. 

それから，今日は新しい食洗機が届きました☆☆☆これまで使っていた古いやつが壊れてから数か月，ずっと手洗いしてましたが，やっと先週土曜日に買いに行って今日配達してもらいました。これで少し洗い作業が楽になる～♪
And finally, a new dishwasher was delivered today! Whoohoo! It's been a few months since our old one all the sudden died during the cycle, and I have been hand washing all the dishes. It wasn't too bad, but it will be nice to be able to use a dishwasher again.
