今日のいろいろ Things We Did Today

今日のことを書く前に，昨日のことを少し。
Before writing about today, I write little bit about yesterday.


昨日は実家からウィリアム宛てに荷物が届きました✨✨✨
William received a package from my parents.


中にはいろんなお菓子🍬と甚平が2着👘👘
Inside the box were Japanese snacks and 2 jinbeis (traditional Japanese clothes worn during summer).

甚平一着着てみました。靴下履いてて変だけど，なかなかいい感じ。
William tried one of the jinbeis. Kinda looks funny with socks, but looked pretty good.

じいじ，ばあば，どうもありがとう！
Thank you grandpa and grandma!


今日は，バランスバイクに乗りに行く予定でしたが，このところ5日くらいウィリアムにお通じがなく，バイクに乗っている間に出たら困る！って思って出るまで行かないことに。
In the morning, William and I were planning on going on a balance bike riding, but we decided not to because William hasn't pooped for the last 5 days or so and I was afraid he would poo while we were out. 

朝トランポリンで飛び跳ねさせたり，水分をたくさん摂らせたり，お腹をさすったり，といろいろやったけれど結局午後になるまで出ず。出なそうだったので一応買い物だけには出かけて，無事に戻ってくることができてホッ。😌
So, I made him jump on the trampoline for a while, had him drink juice/water, rubbed his tummy, etc. But he didn't poo until afternoon. He didn't seem like he was going to in the morning, so we went shopping.


買い物に行ったお店でキャンプ用の折り畳みいすをウィリアムに買いました。それに座ってピクニックランチしたいというので二人で裏庭の木陰でピクニックしました。
At the store, I bought him a camping chair for William. William wanted to try it by having a picnic lunch, so we did in the shade in our backyard.

食べてる途中に尺取虫発見🐛久しぶりに見てちょっと感動。
While we were having a picnic lunch, we found a measuring worm. It had been a while since I saw one last, so I got excited.

午後はウィリアムがサイドウォークチョークでお絵かきしている間に自分は庭の雑草取り。
In the afternoon, while William drew pictures on the sidewalk, I tried to take care of our front yard. 

今日も暑かったので家の中に入って来てから昨日買ってきたオレンジクリームバー（アイス）を食べました🍧これ一箱に20本入っていてなんと2.98セント。安くておいしい💖
It was a hot day, so we had some orange cream bar we got yesterday. There are 20 of them in a box and it only cost 2.98! Cheap and yummy!

それから今日は図書館の夏休みのプロジェクトの一つ，塗り絵よもやりました。指示に従って決められた色で色を塗っていきます。
William did one of the assignments for the library's summer project - coloring. :) You follow the instructions and color with certain colors.

夜は，朝バランスバイク乗りに行けなかったので，夕飯後にウィリアムはブライアンと出かけて行きました。この時点で30度以上あったから暑かっただろうなあ～。お父さんと行きたいと言ってくれてよかった（笑）
In the evening, since William didn't get to go balance bike riding this morning, he wanted to go with daddy after the dinner. It was almost 7:30 pm and about 87 degrees still. I was grateful that William wanted to go with daddy. lol

今日は暑かったので，夕飯に暑いものは食べたくなくて冷たい天ぷらうどん。おいしかった～😋Since it was hot, I didn't want to eat anything hot for dinner. So I made cold tempura udon. It was yummy. 

今週末も来週もかなり暑くなるみたいだけどどうしよう。。。
The forecast says it's going to be hot this weekend and the entire next week. sigh.

ニジマス Rainbow Trout

今日は朝からウィリアムが朝ごはん食べるのに1時間以上かかったり，ほかにもあってモメてドッカン🌋🌋🌋そして夜もご飯食べるのに1時間以上。ちなみにミニトマト一つ食べるのに20分以上かかってる！ありえない！
The day started out terrible today. It took William over an hour to eat breakfast, and he had some other issues, so I got really really mad at him. And again, it took him over an hour to eat. It took at least 20 minutes just to eat a tiny grape tomato! Unbelievable.


そんなこんなで全体的に気疲れした一日でした。
So it was a very mentally tiring day for me.

でも午後はマリエラのうちにスペイン語を教えてもらいに行き，そのために焼いたパン。
But I had some good time too. We went to Mariela's house to learn Spanish. So, I made some mayo bread (sounds terrible but they taste good!).

それから今晩は夕飯にニジマスを食べました。先日教会の友人からもらったんですが，その家族釣りに行って大量にニジマスが釣れたのだけれど，家族のだれも魚が好きじゃないそうで。じゃあなんで釣りに行く？！！って感じです。ということでおすそわけしてもらったのを料理しました。
And for dinner, I cooked rainbow trout I got from a church friend last week. This friend and her family went fishing and got tons of rainbow trout, and none of the family member likes fish, so she was giving them away. Why did they even go fishing?!! I don't know...


日本じゃあマスって言ったら塩焼きだけど，グリルがないので（外にあるバーベキューグリルは自分じゃ使ったことないので）塩焼きは断念してフライにしたものと，それを南蛮漬けにしたものと2種類作って食べました。たま～にお店で売ってる冷凍ものの魚を食べるくらいなので，久しぶりに本当の魚を食べた気がしました。
In Japan, we normally put salt on trout and grill them. But we don't have a grill like the one in Japanese kitchens, and I don't know how to use our grill outside, so I deep fried them. Here, when I buy fish, it's normally frozen fish from the store and they aren't as good, but the trout were very fresh and tasted a lot better than the ones from the store. :)

サーカス Circus

今日はサーカスに行ってきました🎪
We went to see a circus today!


子供の時に一度か二度行った記憶があるけれどそれ以来ずっと行ってません。昔と違って（日本とアメリカの違いかも）うるさい音楽がガンガン流れていて，普段あんまりガチャガチャする音楽を聞かない我が家の3人にはちょっと大変でした。
I remember going to see a circus once or twice when I was young, but I didn't remember it to be so noisy like it was with this one. I'm (three of us are) not used to listening to loud music, so it was a bit too noisy and hard to sit there the whole time with the music.

サーカスが始まる前や休憩のときに，ゾウやラクダやポニーに乗れたり，フェイスペインティングができたり，虎と写真が取れたりするコーナーがあって，今の日本のサーカスがどうなってるか分からないけれど，アメリカっぽいなと思いました。ちなみにウィリアムにゾウに乗りに行こうと誘ったけれど見てるだけでいいというので写真だけ。
Before the circus started and during the intermission, there were corners that you could ride an elephants, camel, and ponies. You could also have a picture taken with a tiger, and do face painting. I asked William if he wanted to ride an elephant, but he just wanted to watch people ride it.

サーカスが始まって，まず虎の出番。でっかい猫を見てるみたいでした。よくしつけてるなあと感心。
The circus started and the tigers did their performance. They were well trained, and looked like big cats. :)

そして空中ブランコ。
And the aerial bar.

丸いボールの中をバイクが走るやつ。一度に3台入って走り出したときにはぶつかるんじゃないかと思って寿命が縮みそうでした💦
And this one freaked me out. At one point, three motorcycles went inside this thing and ran around, and I was afraid they might crash!

これはよく見えないけど，上の輪っかの中で女の人が自転車こいで回ってるんです！
And this one, you can't really see it, but there is a lady riding a bike inside the ring on top!

そしていちばんかわいかったゾウさんたち💖出番が終わって帰るとき，でっかい💩を残して行きました（笑）
The elephants were our favorite. :) They left big poos when they were done performing. lol

このほかにもいろいろありました。
And there were many more.

それから帰り際に，知らない女の人が，なぜか分からないけどサーカスで売っていたホワイトタイガーのぬいぐるみをウィリアムにくれました。ウィリアムラッキー♪これより小さいやつがたしか15ドルで売られてたからこれ結構すると思う。
As we were heading out, a random lady gave William a stuffed white tiger. If I remember right, the smaller one was being sold at $15, so this one probably cost at least $25. William got lucky.

今日は夕方に結婚式の披露宴にも行ったりして充実した一日でした。ウィリアムはきっとすごく疲れたんだと思う。ブライアンが寝かしつける日はすぐに寝付かないのに，今日は結構あっさり寝ちゃいました。
And this evening, we went to a wedding reception. It was a busy exciting day for us. It was Brian's night to put William to bed and he never falls asleep quickly with him, but today he fell asleep pretty quickly. All the excitement we had must have made him really tired.

お友達と遊びました♪ Playdate

今日は昨日と比べたら気温が低く（30度くらい），風もあって比較的過ごしやすかったです。
It was a lot cooler than yesterday, like 86. And it was windy, so it was pretty nice.


朝9時過ぎにスーパーに買い物へ行き（アイスクリームを買い忘れてショック！），帰って来てから40分ほどウィリアムのバランスバイクについて行ってきました。
William and I went grocery shopping in the morning (and I forgot to buy some ice cream!!). And then we went balance biking for like 40 minutes.

途中で一ブロックとなりの道に住んでいる教会の友達のウィル君に会い，ウィル君も自転車に乗っていたので競争みたいな感じになって，どんどん行ってしまうので，必死に走ってついて行きました。💦💦💦
We saw our church friend Will, who is 4 years older and lives on the next street from us while biking, and he also was riding his bike. Then William and Will decided to compete with each other who could ride faster (Of course Will was faster with his real bike), and I had to literally run chasing them.

帰って来て一休みしてからお昼ごはんを食べて，今度は近くに住む仲良しのハーフのお友達のお家に遊びに行きました。1時過ぎに行って4時半ころまでず～っと子供たちは外で遊んでました。石の発掘したり，滑り台やブランコで遊んだり，鳥の巣もどきを作ったり。
After we came home from bike riding, we had a little break, and had lunch, and in the afternoon we wen to our close friend's house for a playdate. We went there around 1 pm and didn't come back until after 4:30. Kids mostly played outside and had a great time together, digging dirt to collect rocks, playing with a play set, making bird nests, etc. 

最後にアイスクリームをもらって食べました。🍦
And we all had some ice cream cone at the end. :)

昨日の夜2時まで頑張って仕事やって終わりにさせたので，今日ウィリアムとお友達の家に遊びにこれて良かったです。来週末まで次の仕事はこないはずだからちょっとゆっくりできそうです。
I'm glad we could go to our friend's house today and had a good time together. I stayed up until 2 am last night to finish a translation project, so we could go play with our friend, and it was worth the effort. The next job shouldn't come until the end of next week, so I have about a week of freedom.


それから今晩ハチドリ（ハミングバード）用の餌台（？）を台所の窓の外に吊るしました。餌って言っても砂糖水なんだけどね。ハチドリの大好物です。砂糖水飲みに来てくれるかなぁ。
And, we hung a hummingbird feeder right outside of the dining room. I hope hamming birds will come. 🐤

マドレーヌ Madeleine

昨日今日ととても暑い日でした。最高気温36度。昨日の夜雨が降ったので少し蒸し暑くて，今朝9時半前にウィリアムとバランスバイク乗りに出かけて1時間ほど外にいたら汗がタラタラ💦💦もうすでに暑いのに，明日が暦の上での夏入り😨😨😨でもアリゾナの友達は今日47度と言っていたので，36度くらいで文句は言えません。
It was so hot today and yesterday. It got up to 96 degrees. It rained last night, so it was a little humid today. As I went out with William for a balance bike riding this morning, it was already hot around 9:30 and by the time we were out for an hour, I was all sweating. It's hot enough already, but tomorrow is actually the beginning of summer! Ugh!! One of my friends who live in Arizona said it was 116 degrees today, so I guess I can't complain with only 96.

今晩久しぶりにマドレーヌを焼きました。たしかブライアンが去年のクリスマスにくれたフランスのベーキング本のレシピから作ったけれど，理想のマドレーヌの味と食感💖ちょっと見た目まだらで微妙だけれど味はおいしい♪これからはこのレシピで決まり。
I made some Madeleine tonight. I used a recipe from the French baking book Brian gave me for Christmas present last year I think. They turned out great. They've got great taste and texture I had been searching for. They don't look so good in the picture, but tasted great. I'll always use this recipe from now on.

レースカー Race Car

最近仕事がたくさん来て忙しく，ウィリアムの面倒を見ながらだとほとんどできないので，自分を救うためにレースカーのサーキット（とは呼べないものだけど）を作りました。
I've been busy with translation work lately, but I can't really work on it while watching William during the day. So, I decided to make a short circuit for race cars out of cardboard to save myself. lol 

これでしばらく遊んでくれたけれど結局一緒に遊んだり見てあげなくちゃならなくて，作ってよかったのか悪かったのか（笑）でも喜んでくれてよかったです。今晩の家庭の夕べの活動もこれで遊びました。
William love it and played with it for a while, but he sometimes wanted me to play with him, and some other times he wanted me to watch him play, so I don't know if it was a great idea to make it. Nonetheless, I'm glad he enjoyed playing with it. We even played with it for Family Home Evening activity tonight.

父の日 Father's Day

今日は父の日でした。
It was Father's Day today.


育ててくれたお父さんに感謝。こちらでお世話になっている義理のお父さんにも感謝（先日から椎間板損傷でほとんど寝たきり生活が続いていますが。。。）それからウィリアムの良き父親でいてくれるブライアンにも感謝。
I'm grateful for my father who raised me, and my father-in-law who has been really nice to me (he has had problems with his disks and has been lying down on the reclining chair most of the time for the last several days), and of course I'm grateful for Brian who is a wonderful father to William.


実家の父には前もってオンラインで飲茶などの詰め合わせを送りました。遠くに住んでいるのでそれくらいしかできないけれど，感謝の思いが遠くからでも伝わったといいです。
For my father, I ordered some Chinese food online and had them shipped to him. That's like the only thing I can do from here, but hope he knows how much I appreciate him.

義理の父には3人（ブライアン，ウィリアム，わたし）から，本（皆既日食用のサングラス付き）とチョコレートパン（手作り）をプレゼント。ブライアンには，ウィリアムとわたしからTシャツと短パン，キーライムパイ（手作り）をプレゼント。義理の弟たちにはクッキーをプレゼント。
For my father-in-law, we gave him a book with a sunglasses to see total solar eclipse, and homemade chocolate bread. For Brian, William and I gave him a card (William drew pictures and wrote some message), t-shirt and a pair of shorts, and homemade key lime pie. For brothers-in-law, I gave them peanut butter cookies.

もうこれだけしかないけどキーライムパイ。。。

今日は日曜日ということもあり，いつものようにブライアンの家族みんなで集まって夕食。子供たちはいとこ同士で昨日に続きはしゃいで遊んでました。ウィリアムは帰る時間になっても帰りたくなくて泣き叫んで困りました💦楽しかったんだろうなあ。
Since it was Sunday, we got together with Brian's family and had family dinner. Kids (cousins) were happily playing together. William didn't go home when we had to leave, and was screaming and crying. He must have had a great time. 

さて帰ろうと思いきや，車の下にうずらの家族が！！写真にはみんな写ってないけど15羽かえったばかりの雛がいたんです。やっとこさ車の下から動いてくれて（というか策を講じて無理やり動かした，笑）無事に帰ることができました。雛超小さくてかわいかった～💖
As we went out to get into our car, we found a quail family was all under our car! You can't see in this picture, but there are 15 babies and they are all so tiny and cute! After a while, they finally headed towards their nest (well, more like we made them go away, ha ha). Whew.

いとこ Cousins

ユタからブライアンの弟家族が訪問しています。だから今日みんなでお昼ごろから集まりました。
Brian's brother's family is in town from Utah, so we got together in Caldwell around lunch time.

本当は皆で集まって家族歴史活動を行う予定だったけれど，ブライアンのお父さんの椎間板損傷もあったし，子供たちは久しぶりにオバノン家側のいとこ同士で集まって水風船で遊んだりして，家族歴史は何もせず終了（笑）
We were originally planning on doing temple work for the ancestors, but with Steve's (father-in-law) health problem (intervertebral disk injury), we decided to talk about our ancestors (share stories, etc). But kids were all excited to get together as cousins and just played outside, and adults just hung out chatting, so we ended up doing no family history work. Oh well.

まあみんなで集まって楽しい時間を過ごせたからいいかな。
But it was good that we had a great time together. :)

抜糸 Got Staples Out!

今日は先日ウィリアムが頭を切ったところを留めてあったホチキスの芯を抜いてもらいに，また救急治療室へ行ってきました。
It's been 8 days since William cut his head, and we went back to ER at St. Luke's Meridian to get his three staples removed.

ちょっと痛かったみたいで，この顔。3針だけでよかったね～ウィリアム（笑）
It hurt a little bit and look at his face. lol He is lucky that he only got three staples to close the cut.

そして今日もバランスバイク乗り。近くでやっていたヤードセールによって，ドレッシングを作る容器を1ドルで買っちゃいました。（＾＾）で，その後それ持ったまま近所を30分ほどバランスバイクに乗るウィリアムを後ろから追いかけてました。💦💦
And in the afternoon, William went on a balance bike ride again. There was a yard sale on the next street, so we stopped by and I bought a dressing maker for a dollar. Then I had to chase William for like half an hour holding the bottle.

今日は金曜日で，金曜日と言えばほぼいつも夕飯はピザ。🍕今日はいつものサラミピザとマルゲリータピザを作りました。マルゲリータピザの生地がなかなか薄く固めに焼けなくて，またリベンジが必要です。味は前回よりもいい感じでした。
And again, we had pizza for dinner. It seems like every Friday we have pizza lately. This time I made one salami pizza and one Margherita pizza. I can't make margherita pizza dough thin and hard enough. Need to try again. It tasted better than last time though.

プラネタリウム Planetarium

今日はまた別の公園で初めて会ったお友達と遊ぶ約束がありました。今日も一緒に遊んでいる写真はないですが，公園の写真を一枚。
Today we went to another park to play with a new friend. I don't have a picture of them playing together again, so here is a picture of William and the park.


夏休みの間，多くの公園で子供たちのために無料のランチが配られます。今日は今年初めての無料ランチをもらいましたが，ウィリアムはいつももらってもほとんど食べないので家から別に持っていきました。思ったとおりウィリアムはスナック以外まったく食べない（－＿－；）ちなみに今日の無料のランチメニューは，ターキーサンドイッチ，セロリ，スイカ，ゴールドフィッシュ（スナック），チョコレート牛乳でした。
During the summer break, many parks in the valley give away free lunches to kids. Today William received a free lunch for the first time for the year, but as I expected, he didn't eat anything but the snacks and chocolate milk (the menu was turkey sandwich, celery sticks, watermelon, goldfish, and chocolate milk).

公園からその足で図書館（Victory Library）のプラネタリウムのイベントに参加しました。即席ドームの中に入って星座についていろいろ学びました。ほんとのプラネタリウムと比べたらそれはちゃちぃけど，特に子供たちにとっては新鮮でわくわくする経験になったと思います。
After the park, we went over to the Victory library (community library) for a planetarium event. We got to sit inside an inflatable dome and saw and learn about the constellations. It was of course not as good as the real planetarium, but cool and exciting enough especially for the kids (and for the adults as well). It was a wonderful experience.

お友達と遊ぶ約束 Playdates

今日は午前中も午後もそれぞれ違うお友達と遊びました。午前中は教会のお友達の家に遊びに行って，子供たちは広～い裏庭で勝手に遊ばせておいてわたしと友達は家の中でベビーも一緒におしゃべり。午後は別のお友達二人と公園で遊びました。二人とも用事があって長くは入れなかったけれどそれでも1時間近くは遊んだかな。
We had 2 playdates today. In the morning, we went over to one of the church friend's house. My friends and I along with her baby chatted inside while kids played in the backyard. In the afternoon, we went to a park and met up with two of our friends. 

お友達と遊んでいる写真は両方撮り忘れてしまったのでウィリアムの写真を。目の錯覚で乗ってる石が浮いているように見える！
I totally forgot to take pictures of the kids playing together, so here is a picture of William on the rock. Looks like it's floating!


今日みたいに毎日お友達と遊べたらいいのになぁ～。
I wish William could play with his friends everyday.

ところで今日は先週ウィリアムが食べたいと言っていた手作りのパスタを作りました。イタリアンソーセージの入ったトマトソースは簡単だけど煮込むのに時間がかかるし，パスタも10個も卵黄使って結構手間がかかるんです。でも偏食児のウィリアムが食べたいと言うのならと張り切って作ったのに，ひっと口も食べなかった👿👿👿というか夕飯まったく食べなかった。今日いっぱい遊んで食事の時間の時にはかなり疲れていたんだとは思うけれど，それでも頑張って作ったのにと思ってカチンときました。明日も同じメニューだけど食べてくれるかは謎。
I made this homemade pasta (both sauce and pasta). I had made this before and it's so yummy, but takes time to cook. But William who is a picky eater wanted to eat it, so I had to make right?! Guess what, he did not even eat a bite of it! I was mad. He actually didn't have anything for dinner. He must have been really tired from playing outside, but still, I was not happy. We'll be having the leftover tomorrow, but I wonder if he eats then.

そんなウィリアムもこんなかわいいところがあります。みかんを食べたらすごく小さい房があって，かわいいかわいいと言って食べるのをちゅうちょしてました。食べてあげたら喜ぶよと言ったら食べました（笑）
William can be both naughty and sweet. He was eating a mandarin and found a small piece. He didn't want to eat it because it was so small and cute. He ate it after I told him it would make the baby mandarin happy if he ate it. lol
