契約終了！ End of my contract!

先週の土曜日をもって英会話学校での一年の契約が満期になって退職しました！写真は、一緒に働いてきたイギリス人講師、マネージャー、わたし（日本人講師）、アメリカ人講師です。彼らや教えてきた生徒たちとの別れは寂しいけれど、もうレッスンの準備をしなくていいかと思うと、とても嬉しい！まだこれからの身の振り方は考えていないけれど、一応4月にアメリカ旅行（主にユタ州）に行ってきます。4年ぶりのアメリカ。楽しみです。

Last Saturday was my last day at work at an English conversation school. My year contract ended. The picture is me with my co-workers. From left, English teacher, manager, me and American teacher. It was sad to say good bye to them and all my students, but I'm glad that I don't have to prepare for lessons any more. I haven't really thought about what I'm going to do next, but I'm going to visit the US in April for a month(mainly Utah). It's been 4 years! I'm super excited!

ウィリー Willy

うちにはウィリーっていう犬がいます。もう来月の12日で10歳のおじいちゃんです。わたしがアメリカにいたときに家族が飼いだしたので（伝道中）、わたしは彼にとってはよそ者。格下なのです。家族に対する態度とわたしに対する態度、全然違うんだよこれが。相変わらず寒い日が続いていて、この贅沢な犬は、毎日コタツでグースカ寝ています。散歩に連れて行くのも大変。行きたくないとだだをこねます。なんて犬だ！

My family has a dog named Willy. He will turn 10 years old on the 12th next month. My family bought him when I was in America during my mission, so to him, I'm a stranger and he thinks he comes before me. His attitude towards me is totally different from the attitude towards my family. It's been pretty cold, and this luxurious dog has been sleeping in Kotatsu (traditional Japanese heater) every day. My family has been having a hard time to get him out for a walk. He refuses to go out. What a dog!

メガトマト Mega Tomato

昨日断食日前にがっつり食べておこうと思って、昼にマックでメガトマトを買って食べました。携帯クーポンで安く食べることが出来ました。思ったより「メガ」ではなくてちょっとがっかりしました。それでもハンバーガーパティは3枚あったから、かなりの物だったのだろうけどね。

I went to McDonald's and bought a Mega Tomato yesterday before I began fasting(Do Mega burgers exist in the US??) . I used a cell phone coupon, so I could get it cheaper. I thought it was much smaller than I expected. Didn't seem "Mega" at all to me. But, there were three patties in the burger, so I guess it was mega enough, ha ha.

パイナップル Pineapple

パイナップルを植えてみました！去年友達から聞いてずっとやってみたかったので嬉しい！今は寒いのでなるべく暖かいところに置くようにしなくちゃ。葉っぱが大きくなってその上に（よくわかんないけど）パインがなるらしい。

I planted a pineapple. I learned this from my friend last year and I have been wanting to try this. I have to keep this in a warm place since it's winter and very cold now. My friend said a pineapple will grow on the leaves??? I will see what happens.

念願のデジカメで初詣！ A New Year's Visit to a Shrine with My New Digital Camera.

あらためて、明けましておめでとうございま～す！今年もよろしく！　実は元旦にコジマで念願のデジカメをゲットしました！で、さっそくとなりの神社にお参りに行ったときにためし撮りしてみました。あんまりきれいに撮れてないようだけれど、カメラが悪いんじゃなくて、まだカメラの使い方がよく分からないからなんですとよ～。このカメラはすごいっすよ！

Again, Happy New Year to you all! I finally bought a digital camera on the new year's day, and took some pictures at a shrine which is next to my house. These pictures are not so clear, but that's because I still haven't learned how to use the camera yet. The new camera is really awesome!

メリクリ＆あけおめ！ Merry Christmas＆Happy New Year!

少し遅いけれどメリークリスマス！＆あけおめ～！（すでに日本は新年を迎えました！）2007年はあっという間に過ぎちゃった。2008年はわたしにとってもみんなにとっても、もっともっとすばらしい年になりますように！写真はクリスマスのときに仕事で子供たちのためのクリスマス会で作ったジンジャーブレッドハウス。グラハムクラッカーが日本では輸入品でとても高いので変わりにココナッツサブレを使って作りました。フロスティングもないので作らなくてはならなくて苦労したけれど楽しかったです。

新年の写真はまたそのうち。それでは今年もはりきっていこう！

Belated Merry Christmas! And, Happy New Year!! (It's already a new year here in Japan! Whahoo!) The year 2007 passed so quickly. I hope this year will be even a better one for us all. The picture is a ginger bread house I made at a Chrismas party for kids at work. Since we don't have graham crackers and fronsting here, we used different Japanese crackers called Coconut Sabre, and I made frosting instead. I had much fun making the house with the kids.

I should upload some pictures of the new year celebration here sometime soon. Well, let's make this year a great year!!

かぎ針編み Crochet

なんとなんと意外にもわたしは編み物が好き！かぎも棒もやるけど、今年の冬の第一号はかぎ針編みでドイリーを作りました。本を見てやるといつも曲がってしまったりして上手くいかないので、結局は自分で適当にやってます。第一号にしてはまあまあかな。

Surprisingly, I love knitting and crocheting(spell?)! This is the first item I made for this winter. I always try to follow instructions on the book, but things never turn out right, so I always end up crocheting without instructions. It takes time to make a doily without instructions, but this one isn't so bad as the first one I made, is it?
