ジーンズの穴 Holey Jeans

お気に入りのジーンズの膝にとうとう穴が開いてしまった。ショック。日本から持ってきたジーンズで一番大きなジーンズ。他のはもう太っちゃってはまらない～泣　大きいサイズのを買ったら絶対にまたそのサイズがきつくなるまで太っちゃうだろうし，がんばって運動して今持ってる小さいサイズのやつがはまるようにする！

My favorite jeans has a big hole now. :( The biggest jeans I have that were purchased in Japan. Other ones are too small. I refuses to buy bigger ones because I know I will grow into that size if I do, so I will workout and make myself fit into the smaller jeans I own!

チューリップ Tulips

今日裏庭のチューリップが咲いているのに気づいて，ウィリアムと一緒に見に行きました。赤と黄色両方の色のチューリップがあって，面白い。ウィリアムはあちこちに咲いているたんぽぽやチューリップを見てとても喜んでました。チューリップ一つ一つをなでなでしてあげてました（笑）

I noticed today that the tulips in our backyard started blooming, so William and I went to look at them. One of the tulips was in two colors. So interesting. William was so excited to find so many dandelions and to see tulips, and it was so cute to see him touching each tulip gently. :)

その時に見つけたのが蜂の巣！一匹の蜂（アシナガバチっぽい）が既に巣を作り始めていた。去年はほっておいてすごく大きくなってしまったので，今年は早めに退治しないと。

While we were in the backyard, I found a wasp nest! This one wasp was working hard to make a nest. It's still small but we had one that grew so big last summer, so we should take this one down while it's small.

今日から教会の友達の勧めでエクササイズのチャレンジグループに加わって運動を始めました。去年も別の友達の下でチャレンジグループに加わっていたけれど，日本に行くときにやめてしまってからずっと運動をしていませんでした。前と同じPiYo（ピラティスとヨガのコンビネーション）をやっているけれど，ずっとやっていなかったのでとてもハードに感じる。体もあちこち痛い。まあそれはともかく，チャレンジグループに加わったので食べ物も気をつけようと思って，今晩のスパゲティーミートソースは自分の分はパスタの代わりにレタスとキュウリ。ミートソースもいつもより野菜を多くしたし，ヘルシーでした。まあ一日ならできるけど，さて運動も食べる物についてもどれくらい頑張れるかな。

I started working out again with a challenge group, the same beachbody thing, but with different coach. She is in the same ward. I stopped working out when I left for Japan and haven't worked out since. I'm doing PiYo (mix of Pilates and Yoga), but it seems a lot harder now and my whole body is sore! I'm totally out of shape... Anyway, since I joined this challenge group, I thought I should eat better. So, for dinner tonight, we had spaghetti meat sauce, but I substituted lettuce and cucumbers for spaghetti. I also put more veggies in the sauce than usual, so it was a healthy meal. I can do this for one day, but I wonder how long I can do this.

チョコピーナッツオートミールクッキー Chocolate Peanut Oatmeal Cookies

毎週日曜はブライアンの家族と集まって夕飯を食べます（30分くらい離れたところにあるCaldwellというところまでいきます）。いつもおもに食後のデザートを持って行くのだけれど，今日はこれ。チョコピーナッツオートミールクッキー。おいしかったけれど日本人にはまだまだ甘いです。

On Sundays, we get together with Brian's family for dinner (We go down to Caldwell which is about 30 minutes away). I usually bring some desserts, and today I baked chocolate peanut oatmeal cookies. They were pretty good, but still so sweet for me.

夕飯の支度ができるのを待っている間に今日は外で遊んでいました。ウィリアムはサッカーボールをなかなか上手に蹴飛ばしていました。

While we were waiting for dinner, we went outside and played. William was kicking a soccer ball pretty well. I might be biased. :)

これはウィリアムの伯母さんのコリー（ブライアンの妹）といとこのエジソン君（コリーの次男）。エジソン君小さく見えるけれどウィリアムより6週間年上で，言葉も文章で話すし，すでにおしっこトレーニングもできているんです！

William with his auntie Cori (Brian's younger sister) and his cousin Edison (Cori's second son). Eddie looks so small compared to William, but he is actually 6 weeks older than him. He can talk in sentences and is already potty trained!

散髪 Hair Cut

今日は昨日よりも涼しくて風もあったけれど，春らしい一日でした。まだまだだと思っていた庭のチューリップが咲いているのに気づきました♪黄色のと赤いのと2食の混じったやつが咲いてました。

It was cooler than yesterday and was kind of windy, but was a nice spring day. I found some tulips blooming in our front yard in three different colors. :)

写真で見て分かるようにウィリアムの髪が長くなってきてずっと切りたいと思っていたけれど切らせてもらえずにいて，今日交換条件（バナナブレッドを食べさせてあげる代わりに切らせてもらう）で切ることができました。すっきり！なかなかおとなしくしていてくれたのだけれど，途中やっぱりぐずり出したので，ブライアンにギターを弾いてもらって気を引かせてなんとか無事終了。

As you can tell by the first picture, William's hair was getting too long and I had been wanting to cut it, but he wouldn't let me, but today I finally got the chance! He wanted me to feed some banana bread although he could eat by himself, so I told him that I would feed him if he let me cut his hair. I don't know if he understood it, but that's what we promised. He was surprisingly good, sitting still without complaining much, but after a while he started whining, so I asked Brian to entertaining him by playing the guitar and it worked. :) Glad William looks so much better now!

プレイグループ Playgroup

数週間前から教会の小さい子供のいるお母さんたちでプレイデー（ママ友の集まりみたいな感じかな）を始めました。毎週違う公園に行ったりして子供たちを遊ばせます。ウィリアムとわたしは今日初めて行ってみました。今日はとても暑かったので（私にとって），早く帰りたかったけれど，ウィリアムが帰りたがらなくってみんながいなくなっても遊び続けて結局1時間半もいました。アイスクリーム家に帰って食べようと言って，なんとか車に乗せて帰ってきました。

Moms with young kids started play day a few weeks ago. We usually go to a different park every week and let kids play for like an hour. William and I went for the first time today. Since it was hot today (to me it was!), I didn't want to stay for a long time, but we ended up staying for an hour and a half because William didn't want to stop playing. I finally told him that we would be having some ice cream at home, then he gave in. :)

今日は暑かったので夕飯は涼しげなタコサラダ。野菜がおいしく食べれるのでいいです♪

Since it was hot like I mentioned earlier, we had taco salad for dinner tonight. I love taco salad because I can have tons of veggies in a yummy way. 

新しい友達 A New Friend

今日は午前中自分の医者との予約があったので行ってきて，午後からは共通の友達を通して知り合った友達のところに遊びに行ってきました。家から5分ほどのところに住んでいます。BYUハワイを卒業しているアメリカ人の人で，旦那さんは中国（香港）系ペルー人と，なんともめずらしい。子供たちはもちろんハーフで，スペイン語と英語のバイリンガルです。5歳の女の子（たしかべレア）と3歳の男の子（マティアス）と5か月の女の子（ノエリア）がいます。ウィリアムは家にないおもちゃで遊んだり，すぐ近くの公園の遊具で遊んだりしてとても楽しんだようです。帰りに帰りたくなくて泣き出してしまいました。（－＿－；）近くにお友達が増えてうれしいです。

Today, I had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so I went to that with William, and we went to visit a new friend in the afternoon. She and I have a mutual friend and she suggested we become friends, so we started contacting each other through facebook and finally got to meet in person today, yay! She lives like 5 minutes away and has 5-year-old daughter, 3-year-old son, and 5-month-old daughter. Her husband is Chinese, born and raised in Peru, which I found it very interesting. William enjoyed playing with their toys, and he also enjoyed playing at the park nearby. He just wanted to keep playing and started crying when we had to leave. Tough life for him. Anyway, I'm happy that I have a new friend now.

今晩の夕飯はお好み焼きでした。たまに食べるとおいしい～♪

We had Okonomiyaki for dinner tonight. It's good to have them every once in a while.

ぺろぺろキャンディー Sucker

今日はウィリアムと午後家庭訪問（教会の他の姉妹を訪問して助け合うプログラム）に行きました。一緒に訪問する同僚がいるのですが，今回は彼女が不在のためにウィリアムと二人で行ってきました。5件の姉妹たちを担当しているけれど，2人は不在で3人訪問できました。その一件のお宅でウィリアムはぺろぺろキャンディーをもらって，普段はべたべたになるのが怖いのであまりあげたことがないのだけれど，今日はあげてみました。前に食べたときよりも全然上手に食べれて，ほとんど汚すこともなかったので一安心。窓のところに座って食べているときにリスがやってきたので，リスを見ながら食べてました。

William and I went visiting teaching this afternoon. My companion was out of town, so I went to visit 5 sisters with William. Two were not home, but we got to see three sisters. At one of the homes, William got a rainbow sucker. I don't usually give suckers to him because he makes such a mess (he did when he had them before), but today to my surprise he ate it without making hardly any mess. He was visited by a squirrel while he was sitting by the window and enjoying the sucker. :)

順番が前後するけれど，午前中はLakeshoreというお店にウィリアムのための教材ゲットに行きました。ウィリアムがもうアルファベットの大文字を確実に覚えたので小文字を教えたいと思って。まだ難しいとは思うけどね。数も1から10までは日本語で分かるので，英語で教えたり，10から上を教えたいと思って数のカードも買いました（でもこれはStaplesという別のお店で買ったんだけど，笑）。9月のプリスクール（幼稚園みたい）が始まるまでにおむつが取れるか分からないから，プリスクール行けるか分からないので，頑張って自分でも教えないとなあ。

Going back to the morning, William and I went to Lakeshore store. They sells all kinds of materials for kids to learn and for teachers to use in their classrooms. William has mastered all the uppercase letters, so now I want to teach him lowercase ones. It might be a little hard for him now, but we'll see. He knows numbers from 1 to 10 in Japanese as well (he usually counts from 10 to 1 though. lol), but I want him to learn them in English too, so I got number cards too ( I got these at Staples though). He's supposed to start preschool in September, but he might not be able to if he can't be potty trained by then, so I feel like I have to teach him as much as I can.

ドリア Doria (Rice Casserole with White Sauce)

今日は久しぶりの雨。午後からは晴れてきたけれどそれでも風があったり気温もいつもより低くて肌寒かったです。

It rained today. It had been a while since it rained last time. It stopped raining by noon but was windy and a lot cooler today.

今週もジャガイモ消費と，それに加えて牛乳も消費したかったので，ドリアを作ることにしました。ドリアやグラタンは昔から大好物。シーフードドリアにジャガイモも投入して，なんだか何ドリアなのか分かんない感じでしたが，おいしくできました。ドリアは難しくないけど手間がかかるので忙しいとできないなあ。

Since we still have a ton of potatoes, and our milk was expired yesterday, I decided to cook Doria (rice casserole with white sauce), one of my favorite food. It turned out pretty good. It's not hard to cook but very time consuming, so I can only cook it when I'm not so busy.

パーシー Percy

いつも月曜日の夜は食事の後で家庭の夕べをするのですが，ウィリアムの寝る時間がすぐに来てしまうので，なかなかゆっくりできません。でも今日はめずらしくウィリアムが昼寝をして早く寝るはずもないので，家庭の夕べの活動としてどこかに出かけようということになりました。ウィリアムの楽しめるところは。。。と考えた結果，Barnes and Noble という本屋さんの子供のコーナーにあるトーマスのおもちゃのセットのところで遊ぶことに決めました。ウィリアムはパーシー（トーマスの親友）が好きなので，パーシーを独り占めして遊んでました。ブライアンとわたしは，本屋さんにあるカフェでホットココアを買っていただきました♪

We have Family Home Evening every Monday evening, but we usually have to hurry up and do it in 10 -15 minutes due to William's bed time. William hardly ever takes a nap, but today he did, and he wouldn't go to bed until late, so we decided to go out for the activity. We ended up going to Barnes and Noble (a book store) where there are Thomas the train tracks are. William's was so excited to play with his favorite engine Percy and the train tracks. :)

ハワイ土産 Souvenirs from Hawaii

今日教会で，同じ教会に集っている知り合いのペニーさんからハワイのお土産をもらいました。彼女の娘さんの一人がハワイに住んでいて，少しの間訪問しに行っていたのは知っていたけど，お土産をもらえるとは思っていなかったのでとてもうれしかったです♪本物のレイとクリスマスのオーナメント用の亀（笑）

One of the Sisters in the church gave me some souvenirs from Hawaii today at church. A lei and a Christmas turtle ornament. I knew she went to visit one of her daughters who is living in Hawaii for a while, but never expected souvenirs, so it was a good surprise. 

今日は毎週日曜日の家族との食事のためのデザートに，ココナッツチョコレートバーを作りました。ピーカンがなかったけれど，なしで無理やり作りました。甘かったけれどとてもおいしかったです♪

I baked some coconut chocolate bars today to bring for the weekly family dinner. The recipe called for pecans but I didn't have any, but I made them anyway. They were pretty sweet but yummy!

誕生会と外食 Birthday Party and Dining Out

今日は同じ教会の友達の子供二人（3歳のリチャード君と1歳のグロリアちゃん）の誕生会に招待されて行ってきました。お母さんはナイジェリア出身，お父さんはリベリア出身です。誕生日のケーキは教会のある姉妹が作ったのだけれど，すごい上手に出来ていて，特にパンダには感動しました。味は甘々だったけど。笑

We went to a birthday party of the son and daughter of one of our church friends this afternoon. The mom is from Nigeria and Dad is from Liberia. The birthday cakes another Sister made were so amazing. I especially loved the panda one! It tasted very sweet though.

夜はブライアンんの上司のビルと，そこにホームステイしている日本人の友達の招待で，久しぶりに外食してきました。そのうちの一人，大学の助教授で一年間ボイシの大学で教えている方が今週日本に戻ってしまうこともあってみんなで集まりました。Kona Grillというハワイアンのお店ということだったけれど，ハワイアンっぽくなくて，寿司があったり，タイ料理もあったり，なんだか不思議でした。ちなみにわたしはジャンバラヤ（アメリカ南部の食べ物）を食べました。とてもおいしかったけど，とても辛くて，真ん中にちょこんと乗っていたご飯が終わってしまったら，ジャンバラヤだけでは食べれなくて持って帰ってきました。ウィリアムはひたすらフライドポテトを食べてました。今日は久しぶりに家族以外の誰かと何かをする機会があって楽しかったです。

In the evening, we went out for dinner with Brian's boss and some Japanese friends (Brian's boss invited us for dinner). One of them, who is a college professor is going back to Japan this week, so we wanted to gather before he left. We dined at Kona Grill at Village (new shopping area), Meridian. It was supposed to be a Hawaiian place, but the place had Sushi and Thai food and stuff, so it didn't seem like Hawaiian at all to me. By the way, I had Jambalaya which was very yummy but very spicy as well. William kept eating his fries. It was fun to hang out people other than family members.

コロッケ Croquettes

今朝起きたとき喉が痛くて，完全ウィリアムの風邪うつりました。まだウィリアムもゴホゴホしたり鼻水出てる。いつまで続くのか。ウィリアムはそれでも元気にしているんだけれど，天気がいいのに最近全然外に行きたがらない。今日は朝スーパーに買い物行っただけ。

I woke up with a sore throat, definitely got it from William. He is still coughing and having a runny nose. I wonder how long this will last. He has energy to move around and play, but somehow doesn't want to go outside much lately even though we have been having such a nice weather. The only place we went to today was a grocery store in the morning.

今日の夕飯は久しぶりにコロッケにしました。例の大量にあるジャガイモを使用して。来週もまたジャガイモ料理する予定。

I cooked Croquettes for dinner tonight. We still have lots of potatoes. Guess we are having more potato dish next week.

アルファベットパズル Alphabet Puzzles

今日ウィリアムは，アルファベットのパズルでほぼ一日遊んでいました。何か他のことを一緒にやろうと思っても，すぐ「ABC！」と叫んでパズルで遊びたがったのでずっとこれ。流れとしてはまずウィリアムがそれぞれのアルファベットが何か言った後に，わたしが色を尋ねて，日本語で（紫は英語で）答えて来るので今度は英語でその色は何というかを尋ねて（逆に紫は日本語で何というか尋ねて）ウィリアムがそれに答えて，の繰り返し。アルファベットは最近Kと混乱していたRも分かるようになって全部言えるようになって，色は今日の特訓で英語でも言えるようになってきた。子供ってすごい学習力持ってるよなってほんと思う。

All he wanted to do today was to play with Alphabet puzzles. I tried to make him do other things, but he kept saying "ABC!!". So we played with the puzzles a lot today. William would pick a letter one by one and say what the letter is, then I would ask him what color it is and he would answer in Japanese (except purple). Then I would ask him again what the color is called in English (in Japanese for purple), then he would answer, and we kept repeating this. He has learned all the alphabets already including R which looked like K to him for a long time, and now he knows some of the colors in English too. I'm amazed at the learning ability children have.

今日午後，ウィリアムと少しだけ庭で遊びました（すぐに家の中に戻りたがってしまったけど）。そのときにたんぽぽが咲いているのに気づいて思わずパシャリ。枯れていた低木からも葉が出てきていて春を感じました。

In the afternoon, William and I went out to the backyard ( He wanted to come in soon though).  While we were out, I found some dandelions blooming. I also saw a bush coming into leaf. Spring is definitely here. :)

父と息子の時間 Father and Son Time

今日は締め切り間近の仕事があったので，ウィリアムとなかなかたくさん遊んであげられずにつまんない思いをさせてしまったと思うのでかわいそうでした。それでも買い物に行ったりちょっとは出て歩いたりしたんだけれど。夜はブライアンに面倒見てもらいました。今晩は徹夜になりそうだけれど頑張ってやって，明日はウィリアムともっと遊んであげられるといいな。

I have a deadline for my job tomorrow, so I didn't have much time to be playing with William today which I felt really bad about. He must have been really bored today. After Brian came home, I asked him to take care of him for the rest of the evening so that I could work. I probably have to stay up all night tonight, but hopefully I'll get it done by tomorrow morning and have time to play with William. 

聖パトリック祭 St. Patrick's Day

今日3月17日はアイルランドの聖人パトリックを祝う日でした。ということで結構緑色の服を着ている人がたくさんいました。オバノンはアイルランドの名前だし，アイルランド人の先祖もいるので，一応去年注文して買った名字入りのＴシャツを来て3人で写真を撮りました。あとはほんとうはキャベツとコーンビーフを作って食べるようだけど，日曜日に家族との食事会で食べたのでそれでよしと。何もしないんじゃつまんないから一応クッキーを緑色に焼きました。クローバーの形じゃないけど緑ってことで。来年はもっと飾り付けとか気合い入れてやろうと思います。

Today was St. Patrick's Day. Since we are the "true" Irish, we had to celebrate. :) We wore t-shirts ordered from last year that had our last name and took a family picture. I guess you are supposed to eat cabbage and corn beef, but since we had them last Sunday at the family dinner we didn't have them tonight. But I baked some green cookies. They weren't in shamrock shapes, but they were at least green. 

今日はウィリアムのお昼ごはんにおにぎりを作りました。これがまためんどくさい！ウィリアムは手が汚れるのが嫌で，手が汚れるものは自分で食べようとしないけど，おにぎりくらい自分で食べてもらわないと困っちゃうので，超ちっちゃいおにぎりを作ってそれを海苔で巻いてご飯が手にくっつかないようにしてあげます。後で手洗えばいいじゃんって思うんだけれどな。

I made some rice balls for lunch for William. He doesn't like to get his hands dirty, so he wouldn't eat anything by himself that makes his hands dirty. So, I have to make teeny tiny rice balls and wrap each of them with seaweed so that his hands don't get any rice. So time consuming! I wish he could just eat whatever and wash his hands later.

チューリップの歌 Tulip Song (Japanese Children's Song)

ウィリアムはよく歌を歌います。で，いつもチューリップ。「さーいーたー♪さーいーたー♪」と出だしのところだけ歌ってあとはもごもごだったのだけれど，なんかここ最近すごい結構歌詞を覚えててびっくり。我が子ながら感心。

William loves to sing, and usually sings Tulip, a Japanese children's song. He used to sing just the first part of the song, but now he knows most of the lyrics. I'm very impressed.

ところで，最近暖かい日が続いていたので，袋で買ったじゃがいもの芽がぐんぐん伸びてきてしまったので，使わなくてはと思って大好きなベイクドポテトスープを作りました。来週もじゃがいも料理たくさんしないとなぁ。

It has been so warm that all the potatoes started sprouting. So, I decided to cook baked potato soup, one of my favorite soups. I should probably cook something that use tons of potatoes next week too. 

今日は月曜日だったので夕飯の後，家庭の夕べをしました。ギターをやろうということになって，ブライアンに演奏してもらい，ウィリアムと一緒に聴きながら歌いました。ブライアン上手～。わたしはコードもすっかり忘れてしまった。。。

After dinner, we had Family Home Evening since it was Monday. As the activity, we had Brian play the guitar and William and I listened and sang along. Brian plays guitar well. I have forgotten all the cords I learned before. :(


全然話は変わるけれど，ウィリアムに風邪をうつされたっぽくて頭痛い。いつもうつされちゃうんだよな～。

By the way, William probably gave me a cold and I have a headache now. I always get sick from him. Sigh.

パイデー Pi Day

今日はπ（パイ）デー！3.1415926...（3月14日2015年）ということで，今年は100年に一度の特別な年。ブライアンの妹夫婦がデザインしたＴシャツを注文してあったのを着て，パイを食べて家族や友人たちと9時26分（夜のだけど）お祝いしました。朝は教会の掃除もあったので，朝から夜まで忙しい一日でした。そしてパイの食べ過ぎで頭とお腹痛い～。でも思い出に残るパイデーになりました。

It was Pi Day! It was a special one this year since the year that ends with 15 only comes once in a century! All day long we wore a t-shirt my Brian's sister and her husband had designed, and in the evening we got together with family and friends and had a Pi Day party. I had so many pies and have a headache and stomachache now. :( We had a church clean up in the morning too, so it was a long day, but sure was a great Pi Day.
