準備の日 Preparation Day

今日は午後から大雪注意警報が出ていました。
There was a winter storm warning today.


午前中まだ雪が降り始める前にブライアンがトラックでスーパーに買い物に行ってくれました。我が家の車では家の前の道，雪が深くて行けないと思うのでね。
It was supposed to start snowing this afternoon, so Brian went grocery shopping this morning before it started snowing. He went in his truck because snow in front of our street is so deep that our car wouldn't make it through. 


大雪注意警報どおり，午後から雪が降り始め，3，4時間降ったのかなあ。いったんやんだので，夕方5時ころに雪かきに外に出てみると，すでに10センチもの雪が積もっていました。もう笑っちゃうくらいの雪の量！
As predicted, it started snowing this afternoon and kept snowing for a few hours. After it stopped snowing, we went outside and shoveled. There was already 4 inches of snow. 


ところで，この大雪はまたやってくる予報で（明け方に），電気が数日間使えなくなるかもしれないということで，みんな大あわて。缶詰食品や暖房品などを買うためにお店もかなり込み合っていたようです。
It hasn't been snowing since, but it's supposed to snow again in the morning and there is a chance of losing electricity for a few days! I think everybody was freaked out and trying to get ready for the worst case. I heard there were a ton of people at stores and shelves were empty.

わたしはというと，まず，電気が使えるうちに冷めてもいいからとご飯を炊いて，ホームベーカリーやオーブンが使えるうちにロールパンを焼きました。
I was at home trying to get ready for the worst situation. I decided to cook rice and bake rolls while I had electricity.

バナナブレッドも。
I baked banana bread as well.

夕飯のタイカレーも早めに作っておきました。とりあえず電気まだ使えてるのでホッ😌
I also cooked Thai curry for dinner ahead of time. I'm glad we still have electricity.


浴槽には水が使えなくなったときのために水をためておきました。
And I filled up our bathtub with water too.

ところが，昼間いろいろ準備したり片づけたりしているときに，スタートボタンを押して動き始めたはずの食洗機が止まってる！あれ？と思ってボタンを押したけれどまったく動かず。😨何でこんなときに壊れるー？！ということで大急ぎで食洗機の中の食器を全部手洗いしました。しばらく手洗いになりそうです。まあ食洗機などなくして育ったので手洗いはそれほど苦じゃないんですが。
While I was being busy, I realized our dishwasher had stopped moving. I tried to push buttons but nothing happened. I can't believe it died on me today! Why today for real?!! I'll have to hand wash for a while which I don't mind that much since I grew up with no dishwasher.


壊れたのが暖房じゃなくてよかった～。もし明日電気が通じなくなったら暖房も止まってしまうけど，考えただけでも恐ろしい～😱暖房入っていても窓の近くに座っているとひんやりと冷たい空気が伝わってくるのに。。。どうか電気がずーっと使えますように。。。
I'm just glad it wasn't the heater that broke down. If we lose electricity tomorrow, we won't have the heater though. I can't imagine having no heat in this freaking cold weather. I hope we won't lose electricity tomorrow.
